I recently bought a used Hydor L30 pump, I just got it home, turned it on, its making the motor noise... I took off the top fitting and the motor is spinning, but no water is being pumped when I put the hoses on, and I can barely feel any air coming out of the out fitting and barely any suction in the in-fitting...

I'm totaly new to this, so I'm open to the possibility that I did something wrong... if the motor inside IS spining, shouldnt it be working or what can be wrong?
 
It is not a suction pump. That means that you have to prime the pump to get it working. :)
 
don't run that thing dry! you're likely to damage the impeller if you do!

if you want to make sure that it works, try it in a pail of water outside, and see if it jets water the way it's supposed to.

is wasn't made to blow air: it doesn't do a good job of blowing air.

maybe i'm wrong, but it sounds to me like he is running it in open air and trying to feel if it is making a breeze.
 
what I am doing is I attached a 1/2" at one end and am seeing that it cant pump the water into itself through it.

if you just want to test if it is working, see my above comment. the hydor seltz L30 is an immersible pump. you ca dump the whole thing into a bucket of water ouside and then plug it in.

common sense: don't get the plug wet, don't plug it in with wet hands, etc.
 
I attached the 1/2" on one side, it is not able to pump in, I am going to go and immerse it now in the sink and see if it works then... but how does that help my inline setup?

you're likely to send water flying all over the room if you do it in a sink, i mentioned going outside for a good reason.

you need to read up on how to locate your pump and fill your system. search and then read.

plenty of fine details, but mostly correct. you often have to lay the case on it's side and hold the res up while you add water to it, in order to get the water into your machine initially. close it up, tilt things around, top up. repeat until you can't work any more air out of your system in that way.
 
will do, much thanks, and here I almost went out and bought a D5 out of worry... the support here is nice, its almost live... now i'm going to go and dry myself off, its too bad the water is leaking in droplets off my bathroom ceiling... but I'll fix that
 
hmm, something is wrong... in my test loop the water goes down into the hydor but the hydor doesnt push it up with enough pressure to complete the loop in a fast manner, it slowly dribbles and just eventualy reaches the other 3 parts with air pockets along the way... then it comes out the other tube and balances out in my res and seems as if it no longer moves the water once it balances out in the 2nd half of my res...

any ideas? maybe I set the loop up wrong? but it does reach all the parts... maybe I switched the in / out for my cpu block or gpu block, i dunno =/

help?
 
You likely still have air in the pump causing it to cavitate (which is basically an air pocket in the pump not allowing the fluid to get pushed) so you need to keep moving things around, working the water through your loop until you have a solid stream of water in the lines coming from the res to the pump and from the pump to wherever it's going.

Make certain the res is feeding the inlet of the pump directly and not feeding into something then into the pump's inlet since that will cause problems due to the restriction of the flow into the inlet.

The pump is obviously working since it blew water all over your bathroom (and yourself) so the only thing that can be happening is you're not getting a good prime on the pump.
