I have a dell e173fp that started acting up yesterday. It was perefectly fine and then all of a sudden the screen went totally black. About every 3 seconds, the screen would flash for a moment and then go black again. The monitor couldn't be turned off, it just continued flashing. I unplugged it for a few minutes, and after turning it on, it worked fine. This morning when I tried turning it on, it started flashing again, but this time unplugging it didn't solve the problem. Anyone have any ideas as to what's going on?

Hook up a diff monitor if you have one, to make sure it's not your vid card flipping out (since I'm not sure if your machine is on or not when you try this).

I had the exact same problem with a refubished sony lcd that I purchased from clearance club.. It would work for alittle while and then go black. I would turn it off, then turn it back on. It would work for sometimes a few seconds and then go black again. I hooked it up to a different computer and same problem. I'm going to be sending it in for repair. Thankfully I've got an extra monitor that I'm using in the meantime.btw do you use a battery backup? I use a cyberpower battery backup. Not sure if that's the cause of the problems since I got a monitor hooked up to it which is working perfectly. Anyways good luck and hopefully someone else will be able to help you.

It's not the video card for sure. When the monitor isn't hooked up, just plugged in, it used to show 'no signal' on the screen. Now, as soon as I plug the power cord in, the monitor will turn it's self on, and start the periodic flashing. It can also only be turned off by cutting the power. I don't use a battery backup.
