If a large 21" triton (dell branded) CRT monitor makes you want to puke when your looking at it? because i just hooked it up to my 360, via VGA adapter, and was seeing if it could display 1900x1200 resolution ok, and what 1280x1024 looked like

now, typically i have it hooked up to my 17" Acer LCD monitor and it looks awesome, but man, after looking at that monitor in a game for more than a minute, it made my stomach upset, and made me feel like throwing up... I am wondering if that is normal (obviouslly it isn't) but i want to know what might cause me to feel like that while looking at it.

You may be suffering from motion sickness if it mainly happens when things are moving.

If it happens with a stationary picture as well, you may be sensitive to the frequency the game/console is using.
Some monitors retain the picture for less time so lower refresh rates appear to flicker more.
The cure is to either use a monitor that holds its picture for longer or use a higher refresh rate.

Going too high res may be forcing the refresh rate down.

Probally because you're using a low refresh rate such as 60hz and the monitor is going to have quite a bit of flicker. Usually most people just get a headache or eye strain, although some will feel nausia.

I remember the first time I played HL2, got sick and threw up, gross! I thought it was a feild of view thing. It was on a 19" Viewsonic CRT at 100HZ too. I have since then switched to LCD, and most games I'm fine with. I think its has something to do with how the character moves when he's walking as well. In HL2, you move around like you are on a ball, like sliding sort of. Its not natural, and the bigger the screen/environment, the more your mind-body can't cope with it. Just wait till physics takes off. We may just see an epidemic of people getting sick. There is a system in your ears which keep you balanced, and from getting dizzy. If your mind thinks you are moving, but your ear-system does not verify this because you are not moving, you have the possibility of getting motion sickness.

Yeah as LanPirate1 pointed out, an LCD will definitely help with refresh rate problems.
Due to the slower screen updates (slight blurring) and persistent image on an LCD, that may help with motion problems too.

I have an HP branded Sony FD Trinitron 21" monitor, (model P1110). Are you sure it can handle 1900x1200 as the one I have has a max res of 1800x1440@85hx. Also at 1280x1024 you should be able to bump the refresh up to 120Hz (or maybe it's only 100Hz I don't remember) to help with refresh issues.

EDIT: wait I just realized 1900x1200 isn't a valid res. Did you mean 1600x1200?

There are quite a few different 21" Trinitron tubes, some are no longer manufactured.
I have a 22" Iiyama 510 Pro with a Trinitron tube also.
This runs around 60Hz at 2048x1536 res and isnt much higher at around the res the OP is using.
Hopefully the OPs monitor can do higher, then maybe the games refresh rate can be set higher too?

I notice screen flicker starting to go at around 72Hz refresh rate.
By 85Hz it is gone.

sorry, i bumped the monitor up to 1920x1080, sorry

also, i believe that the monitor was displaying at 65hz if i remember correctly, and i don't plan on re-connecting it up to my CRT any time soon, my 17" LCD is doing me quite well @ 1280x1024.

basically, all i was doing was seeing if the monitor would display @ 1920x1080 for my xbox 360.

ahh, 16:9 didn't fare so well on mine. I tried 1280x720 and while it accepted it and proportioned it somwhat correctly, there was a almost unnoticeable waving effect in some horizontal lines in different sections of the image, namely in each third of the screen. I didn't notice it looking straight on, but when i turned my head to the side I saw it. Although it didn't make me sick, it was disturbing to the eyes.
