I have recently become bored with WoW. I want to find a new MMORPG to fill the time and try out. I was wondering, I know SOE has severely screwed up SWG, but have they done the same with EQ2? I don't really here about it that much, so I assume it is, quietly, doing fine.

Basically, how is the gameplay? I don't mind grinding that much, as long as their are some fun quests to do. I also am fond of large cities.

Also, how is the playerbase?

Well, EQ2 managed to hold my attention quite some time. I'm fond of photorealism in fantasy games and EQ2 matches that perfectly. Aside from graphically the game is good, though I quit playing, the class selection is wide and customization is pretty detailed. As far as quest go, they are the main reason I quit. Aside from extremely lengthy high-end quest the rest are "fetch x amount of x item and return here for x amount of money and possibly a shitty reward.". I couldn't tell you much about raids and things, but as far as the player base goes most of the players are mature and generally helpful. Good guilds are abundant and the UI is fantastic. I would recommend it I suppose, especially as a change-up from WoW.
 
Ya, Im getting a new motherboard tommorow, and a new video card soon (Now that I will be able to support a non-crappy video card) so I will be able to support it, so that's why I'm asking.

Also, I found out the Morowind requirements so ya.
 
Well if you like fun quests, you probably won't like everquest 2. I played til level 21 and it was just a huge grindfest. The quests are trivial at best - nothing even close to matching the vancleef set in world of warcraft.

I'm not sure there's a system that can run it on high detail at 15fps. The cities are much, much worse.

There were a decent amount of players, but not enough for more than the occasional pickup group. Unlike with wow, you seriously need to group even early on.
 
It's a good game and I spent more time playing it than WoW. There is more depth to EQ2 than WoW and it should keep you busy for a while. Eventually I stopped though for the same reason I stopped WoW- got bored eventually.

But I think you will really enjoy EQ2, give it a shot.
 
Just grab the trial and have a go, there's no need to group if you don't wish to, you can solo as much as you like, just don't expect the best gear unless you're willing to pay/group for it. Quests are not trivial, thats just down to personal opinion and I've never spent even an hour grinding, my main is a level 55 Ranger.
Fun game, especially with a bunch of good people.

IIRC, the trial only shows you newbie island, which is really more of a tutorial zone than any real way to display the game.
 
It pretty much is that some people love EQ2, some hate it, others think it's ok, while others think WoW is the best MMo in the history of online gaming and will not even consider any other games.
I play EQ2, and while it is fun to me, it does have a level grind. If you solo a lot it will get a little boring unless your into major crafting and questing or just plain like soloing, but if you group with people or friends, it will be a pretty enjoyable experience. (You can solo tho each class although some are way better than others at it, and others are more designed for groups)
Also, if your looking for fast leveling, this isn't your game unless you play it alot. It's not that you can't level fairly fast, it's that EQ2 lends itself more to grouping than to soloing so you won't be getting 3-4 levels a night like you can in WoW unless you play it hardcore or are just very good at it.
That said, it is a nice game and does have a lot of content no matter what people say. Not all of it is good tho, but it's there.
I'd try out the newbie isle first as was mentioned. While it's not very deep or involved as the rest of the game, it does give a taste of what it is like.
 
The game certainly does have a ton of content to lend to the enviroment. Even the hundreds of hours of recorded dialog can lend itself to that. I think the strongest point of the game is the amount of content available to the player even early on, however it's weakest point would have to be the length of time it takes to level. I don't mind grinding as long as I have something to show for it, and EQ2 never really rewarded me (just in my opinion). I would strongly recommend at least trying it.
 
I got a char to 57 and another to 58 on wow and just can't force myself to continue. Pissed all my friends off too lol.
 
I didnt even make it through the 30 day free trial I got with the purchase of EQ2. The only thing I really liked about the game was the ability to interact with real people. On a gameplay basis I think the game is horrible. I'll stick with my Baldurs Gate Saga (which I am starting again for the bazillionth time). The game just wasnt as deep as sp rpgs can be. The fighting in the game was more like click on an enemy and watch your character. You only had to click once, the fighting was like a movie. I am also totally against monthly fees. You have to pay 50.00 (when I bought it) bucks in the first place just to get the game. There is no way I am going to pay someone a monthly fee just so I can play a game I just payed out the a$$ for. Anyways srry about my ranting but if you are a big fan of Diablo and Dungeon Siege then you will like this game.
 
EQ 1 is the better MMORPG IMO....EQ 2 was designed with uber guild grinders in mind (in fact, they played a big part in the alpha and beta stages of development). EQ has regressed since Verant left the development process. I think EQ 2 is a borefest.....EQ 1 might be worth trying though I know nothing about the community ATM.
