Ok, ive done some searching and i haven't found it being answer maybe it did with a different thread title, but I am going to upgrade my computer! As the DDR3 prices are now affordable and that i am in need of a new motherboard, my question is will i see a difference from 4gb ddr2 800mhz to 2gb ddr3 1333mhz in windows vista ultimate 32bit? Yes i am going from 4>2gb as i don't have enough for 4gb ddr3 hah, and oh I will be downgrading to 32bit as i have some compatibility issues with 64bit. The motherboard that i will be getting along with it will be a Asus p5k3 Deluxe motherboard and if not then i will still stay with ddr2 and get a Abit IP35 Pro, Thanks!

DDR3 is the future, however the future isn't here yet :p

Right now you won't see any real world performance difference between DDR3 and DDR2. 4GB of DDR2>2GB of DDR3

off hand i would have to say the 3 plus gb of ddr2 (32 bit) would perform a little better than 2gb of ddr3. but since we are all going to ddr3 whether we want to or not.......
but if your planning on not upgrading for more than 1 year, go with the ddr2. by next summer we will be buyin g ddr3 in 3 stick kits for triple channel, making any dual channel ddr3 kits not very valuable.

Thanks for quick reply! So then looks like i should still stick with DDR2? But if i want to future proof then i should get DDR3? Well i should say would i see any performance decrease if i go from 4gb ddr2 to 2gb ddr3 at 1333mhz in vista? If so then i will probably wait for another year or so to upgrade to ddr3. Thanks again!

lol, what he said.
DDR3 isn't worth the price premium right now, stick with the 4 GB of DDR2.

wait another year!?!?! its like a continuing cycle, by next year some thing better will be out or something will be said about something new thats coming out and youll want to wait to buy that. the main thing here is, youll be waiting forever.

no dont get ddr3. by next summer dual channel kits of ddr3 will be next to worthless for intel.

lol, welcome to computer upgrade hell, wait time is infinity.

Yes i know from experience :) i just want to know if it is worth upgrading now or not. So looks like i will be getting a Abit IP35 Pro and wait for next year to check the status of DDR3, ahhh im still kind of confused lol, anyways thanks for all of your help! Still looking for an final answer :p

DDR3 is the memory for Nehalem, you won't have a choice since it has a built-in memory controller. For now just stick with DDR2. It's cheap so it no big deal that its a dead end for Intel CPU's. Better, faster, cheaper DDR3 RAM will be here if you ever get a Nehalem.

I think DDR3 is totally worth it. I have some sitting at home right now waiting on an x48 Board.

But you have tried it yet? Well i guess since if i go to DDR3 im only getting 2gb then its not worth it now i will just get an Abit IP35 Pro XE and upgrade sometimes next year or so thanks guys!

ddr3 is worthless unless your doign extreme OCing and need high speed ram if you don't have enough of a divider.

the socket 1366 boards for nehalem will use triple channel ddr3. dont waste your money on dual channel kits of ddr3.
