I will mostly be gaming at resolution 1920x1080. What do you think is better for money if I buy a 6970 now. In the future sell it and buy next top of the line card or buy a second 6970 and go crossfire.

Rest of the build will be:
2500k Max OC with H50
Either MSI P67 C43 or P67GD53 (Single PCIEx16 vs 2 PCIEx16)
G.Skill 4 GB Ripjaw X series 1600 Mhz

I already have:
800W PCP&C PSU
OCZ Vertex 2 SSD

if those are you only two options i'd get a 6970 now and get the next best thing later. i wouldn't bother with CF 6970's at that resolution. my build is similar to yours but I'll be swapping to a 5870 next week from the 6850.

well i would get the 6950 2gb it can always be flashed to a 6970, its cheap and powerful enough for every game at that resolution

Thx for the quick reply. It's either that or 570 GTX. I like 6970 cus it performs a little better in Crysis 2.

What temps do you get at 4.5 Ghz with H50?

oh and if you are going to OC i'd recommend the board I have if you just want a single GPU. it's got more power phases so overclocking will be easier/more stable. the C43 board only has 4 phases and no mosfet cooler. you are probably asking for a dead board if you try to OC it to 4.5

To put it like this, with my system in my sig, playing wow with everything at ultra and 16:10 resolution I get maybe 110fps MAX looking at the sky and avg 65-80fps anywhere else in the world. That is the game on max graphics. DX11 turned on.

I turn xfire off and the same numbers are there. I dont get it. Wow sucks for xfire. So dont plan on buying your cards to max out wow.

However in games like Crysis and Metro 2033, which im bored sick of, I can play those games MAXED and I get a just playable experience with these 2 cards in xfire. So the xfire application can be used for single LCD ultra graphic games. NO way can a single 6970 max Metro 2033 out and give you a really good 50+fps experience. Spend your money and get what you want.

I'm gonna vote for 6950 crossfire or a single 6950. Crossfire if you'll be playing a bunch of demanding FPS games. E.G. Metro 2033, crysis/crysis 2, Prey 2, etc, If your not going to use the crossfire performance for anything stick with a single 6950.

6950 crossfire = $500.00 unlocked it has the value of 2 6970s in crossfire $650.00. Thats a pretty sweet value proposition.

Thanks everyone for your help, I went with the 6950 and unlocked it to a 6970.
Core: 950
Mem: 1375. not voltage tweak. Temps under control via MSI Afterburner.

single 6950 unlock it and have option for second 6950 if needed in the future but that res is a joke for the 6900 series no real need for second card maybe if your doing 8x aa and 16 af with super high details and want better than 20-30fps as low points in cyr2 hehe

6950 and spring up to the 2600k then. You can unlock the 6950 to 6970... so easy a caveman can do it.. Which in this case you were able to do!!

I'm going with the 2500k. The thing I found most hard to believe was how easy it was to go from 6950 to 6970. I'm guessing it's trial and in the future they gonna have something like a 7950s vs 7950 at different price. One can unlock but it's at your risk if you fry the card. So they can put like the lower end of bell curve chips in the 7950s.

I forgot my password for the other account. Anyway, I just wanted to let you know what I got and my benchmarks. I got the
MSI P67a-GD53 ( as the single card one was sold out)
6950 and unlocked it to a 6970
2500k @4.8 and 1.40 v
