Is Crossfire with different card brands yet same model.

Is it possible to crossfire a Sapphire 3870 with let's say a Visiontek 3870?

I've heard you can even crossfire different models like a 3870 with a 3850...
Is this true?

I thought you could not have crossfire/SLI if the video cards were made from different makers even if it was the same reference board design model.

Can somebody clarify this?

Yup, you can x-fire different brands, and also different models, but only of the same generation [i.e. 3870+3850, 1900+1950, etc.]
