Is Crossfire purely software based now?

Hey Everyone,

Is it me, or can you NOT find a crossfire compatible motherboard anywhere? I'm looking for a furture crossfire compatible motherboard as an upgrade for the one I have now, but all I'm seeing is motherboards with 2 PCIe slots, nothing about being crossfire compatible..

Anyone have any advice? Is CrossFire just all software based after the two cards are linked together?

The AMD 790 FX chipset is a crossfire set, i guess it doesnt blatently say it, but boards with Crossfire are aimed at consumers whou would know what chipset they are buying(and because of this if it supported Xfire or not).........Im also reasonably sure that intel x58 motherboards suppor it

All AMD chipsets and all Intel chipsets (since i975X IIRC) with two or more physical 16x PCI-E slots support Crossfire. Basically, anything that isn't an nVidia chipset will let you run Crossfire as long as you can fit more than one card into the motherboard.
