I have a AMD X2 4200. Would getting a Intel E6300 or E6400 be worth it for an upgrade?

If you can play the most current games at satisfactory settings then dont. If you have the cash and feel like upgrading you'll see a performance increase.

In reality, there will be a performance increase and if you overclock, so far the lower end Core 2 Duos are looking promising already. However... There's really no reason since you already have a dual-core processor that is very good - you should be getting great performance and it's not like you need to upgrade. Would it be worth it? Well, cash-wise (If you ask me) no. Performance-wise, I'd do it because I'm a sucker for performance. So if you have the extra cash and you really want the system to be "that much" better, go right ahead. But if you're satisfied I'd just wait it out - you don't want to upgrade as much as anyone with a single core Prescott does, let's put it that way. :D

I second that. If you need the newest best thing and want to spend money then do it.

imho waste of money in your case but if you have plenty of it to spare and you like having the latest and greatest then go for it. If I were you I would wait for kentsfield or k8l to make the upgrade meaningful.

Yah, your CPU is fine. Don't upgrade, at least not this year. If your gaming performance lags get a new gfx card.

I have an Athlon XP 2500+ OCed to 3000+, would an overclocked E6400 or E6600 be a big change for me? :) Though, literally how much faster would that be, it's hard to compare the performance difference with such an old cpu. I plan to do more video encoding and graphics work.

Lets say...

...a 1994 Honda Civic compared to a 2006 Porsche 911 Carrera.

That should do justice.

What are you doing with your rig?
If it's for mostly gaming, there isn't much point.
If you're into encoding/decoding ripping and pro work, you might benefit anywhere from 5-20%
on your work.
The question is - does the Price/Performance Gain ratio justify the switch.
My conclusion was - NO, so I switched to an X2 4400+. Conroe in a year or two.

If you are not on an AMD64 platform already, or an Intel D CPU- the performance difference is night and day.
