Is Core2Extreme the 'Penryn' series?

From my very limited understanding, I'm relatively sure (hahaha) that the PENRYN processors, which are 45nm will not be available until January 2008.

Although there is rumbling that a PENRYN processor (an extreme one) is supposed to come out November 2007.

So, if you find an Core 2 Extreme processor that's 45nm, well...you have a PENRYN.

That's what I know so far...I've been known to be wrong though :)

Are the Core 2 Extreme CPU's the 'Penryn' series manufactured using 45nm?

The article http://www.guru3d.com/newsitem.php?id=6024 mentions a QX9970 but I was unable to find this among the Intel list of processors at their site.

Extreme Edition processors have typically been Intel's most expensive, unlocked, highest clocked version of a particular line up of processors. The currently available Core 2 Extreme processors are not Penryn.

As already mentioned, the first available Penryn will probably be sold as an "Extreme" part, and other Penryn based processors will come out later without the "extreme" moniker.

My understanding, (lol....) is that a Extreme addition will be avaible before Dec while the rest will be released in Jan 08.
