i wouldnt worry much

i used to work on a farm, was handling Temec(systemic insecticide, extremely dangerous) and Treflan(today's equivalent to Agent Orange), among other chemicals barechested with nothing on but a pair of shorts, no resperator or anything, and have had no signs (after 15 years) of any damage

hehe i see i see..

yea i'm only doing this today... i guess i'll be okay

The fumes from any burning plastic is bad for you. When plastic burns it creates Hydrogen Chloride which is very poisonous. So when you take your dremel tool to cut out plastic you are heating the plastic and creating the hydrogen chloride. You should always wear a mask with charcoal filters and cut the plastic outside.

i see i see

well i'm done with that.. and i don't have to cut anymore of this stuff...

however, if i ever do cut any other plastics in the future.. i'll make sure to get a mask...

Get a respirator. Never ever take your health for granted. Without it you have NOTHING.

Damn. I hate seeing posts like that. Not only because you have potentially exposed yourself to dangerous chemicals. But also because such posts can give people a false sense of security.

Make no mistake, many chemicals can lay dormant in your fat cells, liver, brain, (among countless other places) and resurface to cause all sorts of ailments years or even decades later.

Remember one thing ... if you can smell the chemical you ARE exposing yourself.

^^^ - Well said!!

I totally agree with the respirator comments... I work in a welding shop (not quite the same, but the idea is here) and sometimes when I change my filters out you couldnt even tell they were white to begin with.. Even if you dont get sick from it, things stuck to your lungs can cause serious problems.

QFT. It's generally just not a good idea to breathe in residue from anything you are cutting or working with. Some stuff like Carbon Fiber can cause cancer, and to a lesser extent, make any exposed skin really itchy. If you are worried about it alot, maybe work out doors if it isn't cold out, or just keep a fan going.

no really? i was 15 or so working on a farm in a rural farming community, i also worked for $5.50/hr with no benefits of any kind, no overtime, no paid sick days, no health insurance or 401k plan, nothing, $5.50 * 95 hours = $522.50 - taxes = here's a check (yes we worked that many hours for up to 12 weeks straight without a single day off)

we didnt know what we were handling, he just said not to get any in our mouth and be careful, only years later did i find out what it was and what it could do

please, spare me the "you are giving people a false sense of security" crap though, i didn't give anybody anything but my past experience, the only opinion he or anybody should be taking any stock in when it comes to this sort of thing is a doctor's opinion, not some random person who posted on an internet forum

lets give the OP enough credit and hope he/she has enough sense not to get medical advice from the [H] forums ;)
