was just wondering if amd is expected to release a new video card this year (7000 series hit around this time last year if i remember right) or is the 7000 series on a 18 month life cycle?was planning on getting a new 7950 0r a 7870 but if a new series is in the works i can wait and get in on the leading edge of a new launch for once.

Well lots of things are possible, but the expectaction right now is early 2013 at the earliest for actual new hardware.

My guess would be Feb./March 2013. From what I've been reading AMD seems to have excess inventory which would explain the GPU sale right now, and possible delay in getting the new cards out.

Heck they only really now got the 7 series driver right...

HD8XXX card would make a great Christmas stocking stuffer!

If Santa is making it then I will be asking for it. :)

lol well looks like my purchase will not have me with buyers remorse. went ahead and got the XFX 7870 Double D. card arrived in town on friday but because ups dont deliver on saturdays i gotta wait till monday to get it.

I saw an article that an 8850/8870 were coming out soon that cost 1/2 the $ of a 670/680 and performed as well as a 680. Plus there was an 8970 card coming out soon that doubled the performance of the 7970for about the same $ as the 7970. I think it was a Maximum PC article.

doubtful

i would be suprised if we saw anything before January

I'm waiting for the 8000 cards cause AMD usually drops the price of their previous gen cards when their new line comes out. Hoping to find a 7970 in the $300's. Always hated Nvidia for doing the opposite. They tend to RAISE their prices on old cards. The GTX580 went UP when the GTX600's came out!

Found it in MaximumPC Dec. 2012 issue on page 12. The "Tenerife" card with3Gb DDR5, 384bit mem bus, 2,304 stream processors & TDP of 250Watts. Doesn't exactly say when it's coming out, "It's reports are bubbling to the surface."

geez, id bet money that it would be $579~ if it outperformed the 7970 by such a margin.
