Is a 5770 enough for BC2?

So I currently have a 9600GT and its not working well at my native resolution (1920x1080), medium settings no AA.

I suppose I could go to a lower resolution but I'm thinking of maybe getting a 5770.



I saw this review over at xbit:

Which shows the 5770 hitting lows of 18fps at 1920x1200 and with 4XAA. I'm OK without AA (and still on medium settings) so would no AA and a slightly lower resolution be OK. Maybe that 18 was just one exaggerated dip but I don't know. Any 5770 who play BC2 please give me suggestions.
 
Runs fine on my TV at 1080p 2x AA, High/HBAO off(mouse lag on some maps). Usually in the 50's, dips to the 40s. TBH it doesn't really run any different then my monitor at 1680x1050 same settings. I have set sound to high as well in the config. Overall I never get frustrated with performance in the middle of a full game with a tonne of action going on. Nice and smooth.

For me it runs better then the beta did.
 
I don't think you will be able to turn on all the max settings, but if you don't really care then you will be fine.

yeah, looking over that review, I already noticed that it was tested at High but I didn't know that means HBAO is on by default. I remember lots of people claiming that turning it off helped a lot in the beta thread.

Just seeing that 18fps low vs. the GTX260 low of 27fps made me question it.

Have you ever tried running it at Medium settings? Do you think it would average in the 60s (with no AA or 2XAA)?

I'm OK with no HBAO and Medium settings being that a couple of reviews have stated that the difference between Medium and High is pretty small.

I'm even OK with turning AA to 0 if I can get very good fps.

If you include AA as maxed then no. 4xaa is playable but not nearly as smooth as the game needs to be. 2xaa will be fine. Like I said I'm usually in the 50's and it can go up as high as 80-90 when I'm in an easy to render area.

I don't buy that benchmark. With HBAO it really doesn't run any different, I just get mouse lag which is strange. That 18 low could have just been some random stutter, or anything.
 
I play with all highest settings, 4xAA, and HBAO off and it plays very nicely at 1920x1080
 
My system plays it pretty nicely with 1680x1050 with hbao off :) I used to have an e8400@4ghz, but now I have an i5@3.8ghz and it has just made a world of a difference.
 
Yea. Im also wondering the same thing as Im upgrading from a 9800gt to possible a 5770 or 5850.

I had everything running just fine on my 8800GT before I upgraded today
 
a 5770 will be fine for you. i play bc2 on medium with hbao off and AA off and it's runs fairly well. usually 30-50 fps, but there are dips every now and then.
 
I am running BC2 on the comp in my sig on max settings with hbao off at 1920x1200 and it runs great. I'm not exactly sure of my FPS but it's smooth.
