Is 8gigs too much memory?

Been 3 years since I last built a PC and was shocked at how prices of ram have come down, so shocked that I accidently bought 8 gigs of memory

My specs here on my new system http://www.rodrickbrown.com/newrig.html

So I guess I'm pretty much limited to Vista64 now should I cancel this order? and just use 4gigs? They say more is better but 8gigs ????
 
Haha. 8 Gigs is defiantly too much.

4 Gigs is still TONS!

2 Gigs is plenty.

That is, with normal gaming. If you don't work heavily in autoCAD or run a server, you should have no need for more than 4GB of memory.
 
At that price why not?
You probably won't need it now but ya never know...
 
if i could afford 8gb memory now, hell why not.:D but for my uses, 4g (2x2g) is plenty with vista64.
 
This same question was just posted in a recent thread, as were a good number of posts stating the same answer.

Increased performance by increasing the amount of RAM in your system is only realized when your current amount of RAM is bottlenecking performance. Given that, unless you do some very heavy image or video editing work, you will not see any benefit to having 8 gigs in a high end home / gaming system. Furthermore, using all four DIMM slots in your motherboard will increase the strain on the memory controller, thus limited your RAMs OC potential. If you're not interested in OCing your machine, this should not be of much concern.

Keep in mind that even if you return 4 of the 8 gigs, you will still need to run a 64-bit OS in order to utilize all your RAM. 32-bit windows is constrained to 4 minus the total amount of component memory installed on your system (i.e. memory on your video cards.) On most systems, this averages out to be around 3.2gigs of usable RAM, but could easily be less on a system with one (or especially two) high end video cards.

If you have 8GB you can possibly try to run the whole operating system on memory. Would be blazing fast lol

What were you doing? I'm sure there is someone out there who if they really put their mind to it could use the whole 4 gigs. But it would be a conscience effort.
