Hey all. i have got a BFG 6600gt gfx card and it is running at 60C under load. i was wondering if this is too hot. i have overclocked it a lil but not much. :p

I installed 71.84 and noticed that they added a temperature sensor in the nVidia control center. Is 145 C the real throttle down temperature for the 6600GT?

I heard there was a bug with the temp readings. But it was only like displaying about 20c more than normal. I dunno about 145.

I idle at 42 C and hit 52 C on load (which ironically is practically identical to the temps I have on my 1.4 GHz Thunderbird "B"), so I don't think I am experiencing a bug with these drivers. AFAICT, the bug occurs with the 6800 series, but I could be incorrect.

What I am referring to is the Core slowdown threshold in the GeForce Properties page (Temperature Settings). For my card it defaulted to 145 C!

I idle around 62C core and load around 70C core. Still stable, nothing much I can do about it. I'm using 71.84's, and unless I overclock, my temps idle around 73C. It's messed up lol.

my 6800gt idles at around 51C, then again i have an NV silencer5 on it

I think it was around 65-70 idling on stock cooling, so you're fine

It looks like my XFX 6800GT isn't as overly hot as I thought it was. (Idle @ ~60C and load at ~70C)

Would it be worth it to get an NV Silencer?

I'm wondering the same thing. Also, is the NV Silencer much quieter than the stock Blue LED BFG dual fan HSF?

I didn't know that nvidia cards had a temp sensor in them. How do you enable that, using MBM? but anyway, my temps sit around 33C with a water block on my proc, video and NB. I can touch the other side of the GPU(top), on a full load without it feeling hot. I would say that 60C is to high, unless I'm smoking crack and have no idea what 'normal' temps are.

60°C is not even close to being too high for a Geforce 6 class GPU under load. If it goes much higher than the mid 70's I'd start to worry.

I noticed a new tab in the GeForce Properties panel which says Temperature. It appeared when I installed the new WHQL drivers (it's also in the WHQL Candidate drivers for Windows XP Professional x64 Edition). It wasn't present in the 66.93s. Also, it doesn't appear to work on AGP cards. That's an assumption on my part as I have a PCI Express 6600GT and my wife has an AGP 6800. Using the same driver, it shows up on my properties but does not show up on her's.

It would appear that you are saying that a default throttle down at 145 C is a little ridiculous then. ;)

yeah i wouldnt be consernd until your comp shut off due to heat like my fx51 did hehe

So my 66C idle temp on my stock 6800GT is because of the drivers and not the card? I remember the last time I checked the temperature is was around 53C idle (on 67.66, I believe).

Could that also be the reason why RivaTuner won't let me OC my card to 400/1100? It was set there before.

Sheck your core voltage. If its at 1.0 - 1.2 good luck getting that OC spec. Needs 1.3 volts or better to get that.

6800 GTs run as hot as 90C under load. Note that the 70 series drivers have a bug where they mis-report the temps by about 20% too high.

My 6800GT under load is about 83*. I've tried overclocking the card by 1 MHz and it didn't drop anything.

After reading what ThomasE66 said...and looking at other ppl's temps I'm starting to worry. I have 4 case fans, I thought that, that would be enough cooling. :(

I have wondered the same thing, I just got the nv silencer 5 so I'll report back once I get it installed.

Eh, you might be OK. I think the 6800's run hotter than the 6600's due to having more transitors. I was talking more about 6600 GT's.

I had the BFG 6800 GT OC with the 2-fan blue LED cooler, the NV Silencer 5 is WAAAAAAY quieter, and my card runs 10-15C cooler now (from mid 80s @ 370/1000 with stock cooler, to high 68s-low 70s overclocked to 400/1100).

sweet, CastleBravo how did u go about installing the cooler, did u lap it and what kinda paste did u use. i've heard that as5 works fine on the gpu and ceramique for the ram.

I put a Zalman on my BFG 6800GT OC and i'm running at 441/1.14 and when playing WoW earlier I was at around 70C load using the new drivers. That temperature seems right so I don't know if I'm having the temperature bug issue.

How come my MSI 6800GT was always around 60 degrees idle (~47 ambient) with the stock sink w/fan set low (71.84 drivers, BTW), and now, with the just-installed Zalman AlCu 700 @5v, the damned temp is at last look 63 degrees (and slowly climbing)!!!!!

I know for damned sure I didn't mis-install the thing--- but to make after seeing the temps higher than the stock sink, I pulled it out, super-cleaned everything again, re-applied the Arctic Silver 5, and tried again--

Sure enough-- my card is HOTTER with the Zalman than it was with the stock heatsink...

I'm afraid to even try the thing under load--

What the hell is going on?

Noob Question alert!

I have the same card and have no idea how to check my GFX temps...what tool do I need to download in order to see such readings?

RivaTuner will do it, but you can also load Coolbits2 and get a reading through your display/driver properties pages.

No, it can go up to 120C before throttling kicks in.

But I know people with 70C and are perfectly happy (that's because they have a vaccume cleaner next to their videocard)

Do 6800's run hotter than 6600's? My 6600GT sits at 42 most of the time, went up to 45 when it was under full load for about 5 hours.
