Hey I'm just getting to start testing some faster clock speeds on my E8400 and doing all the follow up on the different setting, well as the more reading i do the more apparent the 45nm chip has a serious problem with voltage increase due to it's smaller size. I Just had my chip reach 3.6HGz on 400MHz FSB 1:1, but i had to do some voltage increasing to get there including my ram (the timing keep tight to the 333MHz specs) so i was just wondering is the 3.8GHz to 4GHz range going to case fast electrical degradation to the CPU?

I was also wondering if I should mess with PLL Voltage, i see a lot of people say do and a lot saying don't. And if any one is curious I will post my current OC and Voltage, but I think I'm doing ok my V-core is 1.35 (I'm working on lowering it) VTT 1.26 (I think that's a fair number but maybe it can get down to 1.2) NB 1.30 (I don't think that's to much ether but I am still doing stability test)


One last thing, I also had to raise my ram up from 1.8v to 2.0v-2.1v because these dam timing are to tight at the high FSB, i have lower timing for the default 400MHz setting but the dam auto timing are stuck at 333Mz setting and I can't seem to find any good reading material on DDR2 timing setting so i don't know what I'm doing in timing control as of now i can only resort to bumming the voltage :( , if anyone can help point me in the right direction it would be really appreciated

Degradation is caused by high voltage, not high frequency. As long as your voltage is safe, you don't have to worry.

As for changing the PLL voltage, it all depends on whether or not you need to tweak it to make your overclock stable. Just play around with it and see if it makes a difference.
 
thanks zero, changing my PLL i find is stabilizes the ram but i need to know how to correctly adjust the setting on ddr2 the last time i tryed it failed prime 95 with in 2 hours
 
Been running my E8400 @ 4.3ghz for over a year now. No issues, no probs. Putting about 1.4ish to it. Now, slight disclaimer...Its not 100% stable here. Intel Burn Test will only pass 3 of 5. Cooled by a Zalman 9500 and IBT pushes the temps up to about 65-68. Normal heavy gaming, day to day use or anything else including benchmarks are 100% stable. Can't remember the last time I had to reboot or had it crash out. To me, that is stable. I'd say if it will hit 4ghz on 1.45v or less, run it there and enjoy it.
 
Similarly, I've been running at 4.1GHz, 1.4V for 1.5 years.
OP, I dont recommend going to 1.4V without decent cooling though and only exceed it if you are clear what you are doing.
 
I've ran my e6600 @ 1.45v for about 2 1/2 years now, still boots fine at stock voltage/speed, no degradation as far as I can tell thus far. Doesn't break 60C under load. 65nm though...
 
I have 4ghz at 1.31875V. At 3.6 I used stock voltages. Maybe you guys need to take a look at the rest of your settings instead of just throwing a ton of vcore at it.

It's not smart to run a CPU that's not stable during testing, even if you can't SEE it having problems while you're working. You could still be damaging it. You also really need to ask yourself what benefits you're really getting out of a 4.3ghz clock, other than bragging rights. CPU stopped being a bottleneck long before and only on very CPU heavy games will you see much if any actual benefit.

I have a very early E8400, the more recent ones need less Vcore :rolleyes:
Also wtf does it have to do with you what I use my CPU for, I wasnt asking for your assistance, especially when you have VERY little knowledge of what you are talking about?
