Is 400 watts enough?

I recentley spent $466.00 on a gaming computer 8gb of ram AMD Athlon II X4 645 3.1ghz, and it came with a 400w power supply, now I'm not expert on computers but I'm pretty sure if I spent $350 on a Asus GeForce GTX 570 that my powersupply wouldnt handle it. I'm starting to think that i just got ripped off.

Highly depends on the power supply, but yes, 400 probably is not enough to handle a 570. You can run a gaming computer off a 400 watt power supply, it's entirely possible. It just depends on the graphics card being used.

Why do you think you got ripped off? Without knowing the complete specs of the computer, it's impossible to make a judgement about that.

That's not a gaming system.. putting a GTX 570 in that is nonsense, and yeah that PSU is trash.
If you can return it do it, and then come back here, list your budget and the place/s you intend to buy the hardware from and you'll get some decent suggestions..

You don't need a gtx 570 in in order for you to have a gaming system. On the other hand that system doesn't come with a dedicated graphics card and a pretty weak PSU. you cannot really do much if any gaming on the onboard graphics. There are many decent graphics cards for cheap that can run pretty much every game on the market at medium settings with that power supply. if you are looking to run a card such as the gtx 570 than you will need to upgrade the PSU.

If you decide to upgrade the power supply I would go with something that is 80 plus certified and preferably 500watts or above.

also I would probably go with a single 12v rail.

You should have looked at the auction, the seller didn't rip you you ripped you he stated everything even the power supply used it was an option to upgrade and you didn't take it.
I hate it when people think because they didn't do the research, they were ripped off it's like buying a car because it has 4 wheels and great tires it doesn't make it a fast car or even a good car just a car.

Hello, please don't SHOUT in thread titles and try to be descriptive. I changed your thread title because "PLEASE HELP" doesn't cut it.

If you can return it you should try something like this: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16883227314
It would be better suited to what you want and it does come with windows7! the power supply might still be weak but maybe not too much.
Yup, if you can return the one you bought, get this instead. And normally a 400 watt corsair, seasonic, or antec would power a 570. Please note that the PSU that comes with the PC you bought is junk. Like others said, however, you don't need a 570 for a gaming PC. The 5570 in that ibuypower is actually fairly decent.

Minimum Recommended System Power 550 W for 570gtx, but I wouldn't go that low for power supply. I would go with 750 watts just to be safe. Plus the system he purchased wont even take advantage of that video card. Buy like hd5770 or 460gtx, and you should be set :)

To be safe from what? The GPU suddenly using twice the power?

400W is going to be at the limit, but the PSU is so junk it probably can't provide all of its rated power, probably not enough on the 12V for the GPU. Take a look at Corsair CX 500 AT LEAST.

I had hd 5770 and I had 520 watts Ocz power supply. It was crashing my pc. 550 watts is minimum recommended. But that has to be quality power supply. Some crappy power supply's say they're rated at certain wattage but they don't even output anything close to what was advertised. I'm planning to get 570gtx and it will be barely enough power to run stable with my current system. There is never enough power. Buy one with some headroom or you might be upgrading everytime you get new video card.
