Is 20-30-20 PLP gaming working yet?

Haven't seen anything on if either ATI or NVidia support this yet. Did either of them finally come around?

You could use softth, I also remember seeing a video where someone does it on eyefinity by playing in windowed mode.

So stupid. Probably the only time I would ever go to Eyefinity. Portrait monitors are so damn handy for actual work.

It's kinda odd too since business where the first to do multi-monitor setups so you would've thought that this would've been taken care of by now. Seemed like having PLP would've been a given when eyefinity launched yet after all this time still nothing. :(

What? Are you asking for 20" monitors, now?

What you're really trying to accomplish with a 20-30-20 display is 4960x1600, broken up by two bezels. Wouldn't you rather have one of the new 5K displays, which are 5120x2800 with no bezels?

Compare the costs, my child.

More like the 5K monitor being no less than $ 2k for the foreseeable future, and a decent PLP setup would cost half of that.

Not to mention, everybody says 'but bezels!' To multi-monitor gaming, but you still have bezels in single monitor gaming, it's just that in multi-monitor you get MORE GAME after the bezels, with a single monitor, the game stops at the bezels. The 20-30-20 PLP setup would have a wider aspect, giving you a pinch more peripheral vision over a standard 16-9 setup. That extra pinch of vision does wonders to immersion.

There is very little incentive for NVIDIA or ATI to support PLP.
Well first, PLP is a niche market and recouping the development cost may be challenging.
Secondly, PLP is likely on its way out with the emergence of 4K/5K monitors.

Personally, I will continue gaming on my 30" while waiting for an affordable 4K curved OLED..PLP is still great for work.

That's all very interesting, but you can't game on 20-30-20, my child.

yes you can, as mentioned above in softh or windowed mode

and the 4K monitors still suck ass in frequency, only 30 Hz at full resolution as of yet, and input lag

But that is the point of this thread, to say WERE IT POSSIBLE gaming on a PLP setup would be cheaper and in some cases better than a similar sized/resolution single display.

What you said is akin to saying 'person A wouldn't make a better president because he/she is not president'

I don't know if you are trolling or...

Hey guys... You are closer than ever to getting your PLP support on AMD. The newer drivers allows you to use All your monitors in Eyefinity. Although, they all have to be in landscape. So, you can either play in 5760x1200 or 5760x1600, the former will put black bars on the 30", the latter will render more in the empty space that is below and above the 20"rs.

Do understand that if the Physical PPI is different, it's going to look wonky. So, 30" 2560x1600, 20" 1600x1200, 22" 1920x1080 all work together.
These work with the above, but a less than common: 16" 1280x1024, 44" 3840x2160, 17" 1440x900 (HP actually made one of these and I had one until I could afford a 3rd 30")

If you want to emulate the PPI of your main display, you're going to need to make an EDID mask that matches it.

I have a 30" 2560x1600 (100.63 DPI) and a 27" 1920x1200 (83.86 DPI), I'd need to set the 27" at 2304x1440 to match the 30" DPI or the 30" to 2193x1233 to match the 27".

Since most monitors aren't good at scaling bigger than native resolutions, I'd actually go for the lowest DPI, but it doesn't hurt to try.

This isn't necessarily only a Nvidia or ATI issue, if a monitor company would offer rotation support in hardware and report back to the graphics card that it was a for example 1200x1600 instead of a 1600x1200 monitor you could do PLP without dealing with Nvidia or ATI software.

The thing is that I am done with AMD until they improve their hardware performance and multi-GPU drivers stability and performance.

Maybe I'm missing something here but why not just get a 34" 1440p 21:9 monitor and not have to fuck with literally anything?

I made a video alternating between triple and single screens.

My setup is a center 24" 1920x1080 monitor and 2 side 22" 1680x1050 monitors. Eyefinity scales down the center monitor to 1680x1050 then stretches it to fill the screen. Luckily my 24" monitor is the same screen height as the side monitors. The actual resolution with bezel compensation is 5144x1050.

You're honestly better off with the 34" 1440p 21:9 panels. If you want the side monitors for productivity, pick up a couple of dell 2170fp for $50 on craigslist.

It's all about the cost and planning. Yes, if money were no issue, people could just grab a $3k monitor and call it good, but if you want to get into eyefinity and have two 900p monitors, and instead of trying to find a third or buy three new monitors, you can buy one nice Korean panel 1440p monitor and save a ton of money using the two older panels in portrait mode as peripheral monitors.

But this isn't an option, that is why people are asking for it. Plus, it just looks plain sexy. Disable eyfinity mode to have two documents + full screen video, enable it for surround gaming.

They are not 3k. They can be had for between $850 and $1000.

Personally, if you want to go cheap (but only game on the center), do what I did. Purchase a $300 120hz 27" korean and put two dell 2107fp on either side. You can't do eyefinity PLP well, but its a beast for productivity and I think I enjoy the 120hz gaming more than eyefinity.

FYI -- I had a 34um95 when they first came out and it was glorious, but it had shipping damage and they were out of stock for almost a month so I did this.
