• Some users have recently had their accounts hijacked. It seems that the now defunct EVGA forums might have compromised your password there and seems many are using the same PW here. We would suggest you UPDATE YOUR PASSWORD and TURN ON 2FA for your account here to further secure it. None of the compromised accounts had 2FA turned on.
Once you have enabled 2FA, your account will be updated soon to show a badge, letting other members know that you use 2FA to protect your account. This should be beneficial for everyone that uses FSFT.

I would like to suggest that an IRC chat server be built or have a permanent alias like irc.hardocp.net port:6667 be setup on some other IRC server so that #channels may be created and utilized to further extend the forums ability to answer questions and communicate.
This IRC server could be accessed through a Java browser window that can be added to the forum as a link or through stand alone apps that are readily available.
Many other forums have included this as a service for there forums with great success.

I believe this would be an added attraction and benefit for the HardOCP website and forum.

Nothing a good Bot with a few scripts can't handle.
Unattended moderation in an IRC channel is easy to accomplish.
They have been doing it for quite a few years now.
Add a couple Ops that watch it when they can and there should be very few problems.

There's an extremely un-offical IRC channel, so un-offical [H] chooses to not acknowledge any affiliation to it. Which is for good cause. There's about 30 everyday users on there :)

irc.efnet.org
#genmayhem

you've been warned..

Why do we need this? Can't we just discuss whatever we need on the forum?

IMO, all this is going to do is create inner circles and make this forum a lot less friendly towards those that don't post very often or are newer members or belong to the who the hell are you? group (ie myself).

Thumbs down. Way down.

i have two thoughts about this:

1. this is already a place for information exchange, so why create another option for that (so this is a negative)
2. the forum is not real-time communication (typically), so i can see how a chat room being real-time for answers could be good (this is the positive)

i'm kinda on the fence about this, but it doesn't really matter cause it's already happening :)

Considering it's "unofficial" and the decision of Razor to create it (and he was kind enough to ask Kyle about it, although Kyle would realistically have absolutely no say or control over anyone choosing to do this), I don't see what the issue is.

Communication is always a good thing, not a bad one. Anything that boosts that to a higher level, hey, I'm all for it. I was using IRC 3 months before it was even public knowledge (that infamous Usenet posting back in 1989) and I helped do some development on the original daemons... been there, done that.

I'll probably pop into Razor's channel and check it out sometime. Can't hurt to bump heads, right? :D

This will just create a divide. Plus, there's already an unofficial [H] related IRC channel.
