Anyone onboard with this fantastic sim? I've been subscribed for just under a year and I've personally never experienced a better virtual driving experience-from the driving model itself to the online structure, servers, sanctioned tournaments, etc. It's all very organized and well thought out.

Here's a few videos for your viewing pleasure from over the past few months.

McLaren MP4-12C GT3

Cadillac CTS-VR

Some silliness in a Miata :p

Yup, been subbin non stop since beta, 3-4 years ago now? Definitely the best quality racing to be had outside of set leagues through nogrip/racedepartment race 07/evo events.

Best driving sim I've played in terms of physics model and community structure, but the racing is literally too intense for casual racing for me. With ratings on the line for any "sanctioned" race event, even the tiniest error sends people into rages... not my idea of fun.

Another quick video in the Skippy: http://youtu.be/rxXsO18gfDE?hd=1

Probably one of the most useful cars in the service...it's a pure momentum vehicle (very little hp) and it will kill you if your steering input is abrupt...very good for learning how to drive fast and smooth. Catching slides in this thing is just a JOY, I find myself throwing the car into corners just to get her loose!

So I've recently started playing this. Anyone here still playing? I'd like to have a place to talk about set ups and race strategy etc.

I just resubscribed with their recent $12 for three months deal for existing accounts. It's been improved over the past months, and as always the quality and accuracy of their tracks are AMAZING.

Right now I am just trying to get down the Mazda Cup cars on the Okayama course. I'm having fun just doing practice sessions and getting my lap times down while working on moving through real traffic. It's always intense. I dunno if I have the nerve to get back into the real racing though.

Nice. That's pretty much where I am at. I've been using the Cadillac, but I may switch to the Mazda. The Cadillac is a lot of fun, but definitely not forgiving for a newbie like myself. I'm riding a 3 month free membership. I figure, if I decide to renew, then I can buy the Skip Barber and start an open wheel career next season. I am also interested in pursuing the GT circuits though.

that is so weird not seeing arms.

to bad iRacing costs money.

eh? There are hands/arms models, but some people prefer to turn them off, or in my case I turn off the wheel and hands completely since I'm looking at a wheel right in front of me anyway.

And yes, it does cost money.

I've just played a bit of the Mazda. I think I'm going to commit to that series for this season. I can see how running that car, and focusing on driving lines will really develop my skills. It's all about momentum and line! I think it'll pay off later on when I jump to Grand Am/GT Series cars and the open wheelers.

That's intense man. : ) I'm looking forward to driving one of those.

I just realised my wheel settings were making iRacing WAY harder than it should've been. Rocking the Cadillac like nobodies business now.

-edit-

I've done some more driving, and I think I will stick with the Mazda after all. As I don't have to worry as much about things other than driving line, I can concentrate on improving that aspect of my driving before augmenting it with other skills. That should translate really well to other cars later on.

I've also decided to progress to the Skip Barber Formula 2000 next season.

A quick video of my fastest MX-5 Time at Limerock so far. Clearly I have room for improvement, but I dropped from the 1:05s to 1:02 in one session. I was happy with that. : )

I've decided to start tracking my progress through iRacing with a few videos now and then. I'm definitely not the fastest, or the smoothest, but I'm documenting my journey as I get better. You can check out my videos here:

Right on dude! Subscribed to your channel. Stick to the miata and master it! I am currently working the skippy, having progressed from the miata...however, I've gotten extremely sidetracked with all the other sweet cars the service offers. The best way to develop racecraft and speed is to start in the miata and work your way up for sure. The skip barber is a huge challenge coming from the miata-it really forces you to place the car perfectly every time, especially with a loose (read: fast) setup. The skip is extremely unforgiving-chuck it into a corner slightly off balance and it'll send you straight into a wall :p Great car to develop race skills with!

yep, great sim, been playing on and off since launch myself, iracing with 3 screen setup and a decent wheel/pedals is fantastic.

fanatec csr, fanatec elite pedals and fanatec 6 speed shifter. I am happy with them both, nice upgrade over my old G25 setup.

Best bang for the buck combo right there :) Been considering the Clubsports, but reliability issues has been holding me up. I'll probably wait for black friday in case they come out with another good deal like last year.

Bumping my rig pics from previous page :D

What a beauty!!

Any of you go from Forza 4 or GT5 to iRacing? Ive been thinking about trying it but its hard for me to bring myself to a subscription based game where I have to pay for so much.

Iracing is really nothing like Forza or GT5. It's nothing but hardcore online racing with a few different vehicles. And I do mean hardcore. People take it very seriously.

I'm talking in terms of graphics/detail, realism(mechanics of the game), sound etc. From the previews I've seen, I don't SEE a better game. I also would expect it to be very visually obvious considering the hardware possibilities of a pc compared to a console. Just wanted some input of somebody minimal bias

In physics and driving model, nothing beats iracing imo. The sounds are amazing for the ones that the updated in the last few months, check out youtube for the new V8 Supercar sounds as an example.

But again, you have to realize it's not about collecting cars or modifying them, the sole purpose of the game is to organize multiplayer races and have the best physics model around.

I recommend that you do some ghost races. Enter one the "watch" sessions as a spectator, then, once you're watching the race as a spectator, join the other cars on the track. They can't see or hit you, and vice versa.

Look for a post about the caddy's differential settings, coast and acceleration ramp preload totally change the car's handing.

If anyone is interested in a free three month membership to iRacing, try the link I posted in the following thread. Cadillac was offering a three month membership as part of their CTS-V promo, it may still work if you're lucky.

/other good iracing info in that thread too.
