IPS viewing angle confusion

One of the listed positives of IPS panels is that they have superior viewing angles.

Now I've only had one IPS monitor and the viewing angles are good but they're awful on anything dark where you get terrible glow.


So isn't IPS having good viewing angles kind of misleading when if you're watching a movie or game with a dark scene it looks horrendous?
 
Take it on a screen by screen basis. Some screens are better than others. Bad IPS screens can be worse than good TN ones.

It is somewhat, yes. There are some models that suffer less, but mostly IPS glow is terrible, especially with bigger screens.
 
You need to get a panel with an A-TW polarizer to avoid "IPS glow".
None of the recent AVHA panels seem to use them.
