If you regularly read our articles, you will probably have taken a look at our article called "LCDs with persistent images". In a nutshell: some flat monitors would be subject to a phenomenon of marking that isn't easy to erase.
Not so long after writing this article, I changed my monitor and got a very nice burn in, or to be accurate full monitor persistent images. The monitor in question is the ViewSonic VP231wb, a 23 inches IPS. This technology the most subject to this kind of problems according to unofficial sources.
We permanently used to see marks of Writer (OpenOffice 2), a picture in the center of the monitor (due to the too long exposition of a web page) and traces of Outlook. Displaying a white page during several straight hours didn't change the situation. However, after a week of holiday, almost everything disappeared. There is just one slight vertical line left due to OpenOffice.
I seize the opportunity with this news to pre-announce the release of an article. This happen less and less often, especially after the articles about monitor's electronic components, burn-in , but some of you continue to say that we outrageously favourite LCDs compared to CRTs. Well this info will please you if you are one of them: LCD monitors will have a hard time very soon!
Release date: soon.
Target audience: gamers first of all but also video enthusiasts.
Object: release of a new test that shows new very interesting facts."
We've all heard about image persistence problems on some of the new apple 23'' CDs...i was curious if this applied to the older apple panels as well (the ones that use the same panel as the sony 23'' display)...
is this just the newer IPS panels that apple is using or does it in fact apply to IPS technology in general like the article suggests?
