ipod problems

so my sister gets an ipod tonight...she doesnt have usb2 on her computer, so we hook that sh!t up(to mine), install itunes and ipod updater, and lo and behold...

ipod needs to be updated. no big deal, so i go into the updater (the ipod reformatting tool), and click restore (update wasnt an option), and lo and behold...

disk write error

so i go into my computer and go to format the drive with winblows...gets all but the last bar done then says:

cannot format drive H:

can anyone help?

Before we test the harddrive, lets try putting it into disk mode then try from there.
Hold down Select and Menu until you you see the Apple Logo
When you see the Apple Logo, hold down Select and Play.
At this point plug it in to your computer via firewire and run the iPod Updater
