Ipod not being recognized

All of a sudden my computer isn't recognizing that I have an ipod connected to it. I'm using the firewire port of the nf-7s, and I know that it's connected because it's charging, just not syncing. I've tried resetting the ipod, but I can't restore it because the computer doesn't see it. any Ideas?

it's a 3g 10g ipod.
 
anyone? would a mod mind moving this to general hardware for more exposure? I think it maybe be a firewire problem.
 
Try manually resetting your iPod, this happend to me once and I held Menu and Play at the same time until an Apple logo popped up. It started synching again, Good Luck. :)
 
nada...i tried it last night. The computer isn't recognizing that the ipod is connected at all... nothing.
 
IF you're using XP, there is a FireWire patch you need to download. Search the Apple forums for "firewire patch" (or similar) and or try searching MS's site.

well unfortunately I had already applied the patch. I tried installing a spare firewire card that I used to use, and it didn't work either. I'm going to take the ipod to the genius bar over the weekend and see if they can flash it to the newest software. I'll let you know what happens.

I went to the genius bar, and what a good experience. Everyone is friendly, relaxed, KNOWLEDGEABLE!!

The guy determined that the firewire bus on my ipod was bad(it worked with usb, just not firewire), so he went in the back, dug up a refurbed model, and off I went!
