IPMI for Server Recommendation

Anyone have a good recommendation for an IPMI addon card, either PCI or PCI-e? I've looked at some of Supermicro's AOCs but I have no idea what really is reliable or compatible. It'll be going in a Gigabyte AM2+ board (forgot the exact model) which will be accessed from another state after I move.

IPMI cards are system specific. You cannot add any of the Supermicro cards to yours. If you want IPMI, you'll need to buy a board with it (there are external options, but they're more expensive).
 
hmmm... well that's unfortunate. I'm not really feeling like spending $250+ on the combo, I wasn't really even happy with $100 for just a card.

Intels Q57 and Q67 supports remote "KVM" and aren't as expensive...

I'm assuming you're referring to Intel AMT. I actually have setup and configured AMTSCS for use at work with all our public lab machines and I definitely think it's a good tech. Sadly, I have an AMD 640 and an Intel E8400 (socket 775) which I don't believe Intel Q/executive series boards allow KVM mode.

Q45 motherboards, of course. The CPU works with AMT.

I believe AMT 5.0 (Q45) does not have support for KVM mode. This mode began with the Q57 chipset. Please correct me if I'm wrong though.

VNC-based KVM remote control

From major version 6, Intel AMT embeds a proprietary VNC server, so you can connect out-of-band using dedicated VNC-compatible viewer technology, and have full KVM (Keyboard, Video, Mouse) capability throughout the power cycle - including uninterrupted control of the desktop when an operating system loads. Clients such as VNC Viewer Plus from RealVNC also provide additional functionality that might make it easier to perform (and watch) certain Intel AMT operations, such as powering the computer off and on, configuring the BIOS, and mounting a remote image (IDER).
 
You could always just purchase an inexpensive KVM switch.

Could you be more specific (eg: brand/model)? I've never seen network accessible KVMs for under $400.

Actually, the AMT is very relatively inexpensive and would work fine. I may even go that route as at this point I think it's the cheapest. I can get a Q67 board and an i3/i5 for around $300.
