Can I get your guy's feedback on your iPhone. I'd like the positive and negatives more in depth then I'd find on the internet (for example: I don't want to hear that it's not on the 3G network, etc. I already know that). I would like to hear more things that you believe are the most glaring disadvantages that it possesses, along with the things that you absolutely love about your iPhone. No copy and paste, biggest drawback ever. Say I wanted to look up a website online, then paste an address in maps. No go. Iphone cannot copy and paste.
touch screen is nice and phone calls are good, speakerphone could and should be louder.
No 3g, wifi is the only way to go. AT&T EDGE sucks.

The UI is it's biggest selling point to me... Everything is so easy to get to, there are no convoluded menus, very little nesting of options etc... Everything's just there, within a couple taps of your finger.
Calls come up without disrupting what you were doing before, which is a godsend compared to my current phone.
Now, I don't own one, I've just seen one and fiddled with it myself

Worst stuff for me after three months:
- doesn't timestamp every text message (yes that does actually bother me)
- no flash in the browser
- no landscape text message view

- screen is incredibly tough. No case and no scratches or marks STILL after months
- double tap home button to iPod controls
- double click headphone button to skip song
- VPN for wifi! (I use this every day on campus)
- the keyboards suggestions are pretty damn good (it knew "Warcraft", and knew to capitalize it...)
- how everything works together. Say you have your friend's address under his contact info. You can click that address, Google Maps pops up, then you can type in what kind of food you want and it pops up all the places to eat around that area. There is a lot connected like that.
They are amazing devices. I got one and my buddy played with it and had one for himself a week later.

My only gripes with the iPhone are...
- It can get slow to respond at times under heavy use - especially using Safari. Example: Sometimes the screen just doesn't respond to my touch for a minute or two when it's loading a website
- Wish it can support other video formats, so i don't have to use Handbrake and AnyDVD; or purchase directly from iTunes store
- Wished it could have some type of "Game" sections without using a 3rd party app
- The camera really isn't good unless you're in a very very bright room
- Fingerprints
- Recessed headphone jack
The great things though...
- As a music/video player = awesome
- IMAP with Gmail is great!
- Very durable phone after the abuse I've given it
- YouTube makes it a good passing time during those nights where you can't sleep

Ok here goes after 2 months worth of ownership!!!
Cons:
- Camera is not necessarily the best in the market, could use some lighting improvement but in good light it can take stellar pictures (however motion blur is a problem)
- No video mode for camera (would like to have this for those unforeseen things) I mean come on they start with 4gb of memory I think a video mode could be easily added
- Edge sucks in some areas but is better in others (More a gripe at AT&T)
- Photo categorization on the phone sucks ( no way to split up images, you just get one long string of thumbnails and when you get towards large numbers it starts to lag a bit.)

You can catagorize photos if they are organized in My Pictures/Album name/photo.jpg. Anything else causes the photos to show up in a gigantic list.

One thing I wish it could do is to use an address in an Email as a destination in the maps program. I had to write it down and go to maps and manually type it in...since there's not copy and paste If there's a phone number in an Email it becomes a link and you just tap it to call it. I wish addresses would work the same way.

my iphone suits my needs just great, and now that i have another Macbook, it integrates SO WELL. one thing id like to see, a skip song BUTTON. my car has a aux in jack, and its ridiculous how i have to unlock the phone everytime i want to switch songs, blah. Ultimately, id love to find a 2 sided headphone cable with the apple skip button on it (like the stock headphone)....

Do you plug it into an auxiliary port? Or is there an FM transmitter out for the iPod?
correct me if I'm wrong, but if you're running 1.1.2 you should be able to configure the home button "double click" to bring up ipod controls, which IIRC you can use without unlocking the phone.
I have been on the fence a long time with the iPhone, and this thread pretty much sealed it for me.

i got my iPhone yesterday and it is simply amazing, it is truly revolutionary so far the only things that annoy me is the lack of flash in the web browser and not being able to send multimedia text messages other than that very few complaints, it is also a 8GB ipod touch wich is great for me since i previously did not have an ipod or Zune or any kind of MP3 player and sound Quality is just as good as a regular ipod.
as for data with edge once again no complaints it might just be the area i am in( socal) but wherever i have gone my edge connection has been blazing fast, i can browse the web, use youtube, and use googlemaps with satellite images just fine.
the phone it self is awsome, sound quality is good and the touch screen overall is awsome.

I got mine as well and I love it, the iPod has great features, EDGE is decent enough for what I need it to do, sound quality is excellent, I'm getting more and more used to the virtual keyboard, and the battery life is great, couldn't be more happy so far.
Are you guys getting the iPhone plan for like 59.99 or whatever it starts at...or are you just getting minutes and adding the data to it? Just curious, but I was reading somewhere that it was cheaper or something. I'm looking to get an iPhone at Christmas and was just wondering.
I actually started out with the iPod Touch because I had already convinced myself that the iPhone would not have enough memory and that I didn't want to have to share a battery life between entertainment device and phone and be caught short.
I was so impressed with the Touch's UI and ease of use that I ended up swapping it in for the phone (I bought it less than 2 weeks before the phone release). I also felt that the 16GB on the Touch was actually excessive and that I could easily get by with 8GB for all my media. I had imagined wanting to keep my entire library on the phone but the reality is that I dock it every day to sync my podcasts so I can easily make playlists and there is little need to have the entire music library portable every day.
I'm beyond impressed with the phone. I bought it because of the 'shiny' factor, only really wanting to combine my phone and iPod but it's actually made me appreciate Apple apps and I'm seriously looking into replacing my PC next year with a high-end gaming rig, assuming the next line of MacPro's come with Penryns and second generation DX10 cards.
What really got me was that way that all the applications are aware of each other and built to work with each other. It really makes existing phones and Windows based PC's look needlessley convoluted. My only gripe so far is that the details of an event in the calendar don't follow this universal rule, like every other app on the phone. What I would like is to be able to stick address details, phone numbers etc into a calendar event and then have google maps, contacts, phone etc. all launch appropriately when I tap relevant info in the calendar event.
Finally, I really like the way that data is unlimited on the O2 contract. It's just peace of mind.

- Surf the internet
- Send email
- Compose Office documents (maybe via Google docs)
- Listen to music
- Watch movies and TV shows
- Play some games (Poker and small stuff like that)

I've looked into portable dvd players and a small laptop, but both are too big. I also purchased an Ipod classic, but no internet and the small screen caused me to return it. I came very close to buying an Ipod touch, but the 16gb is the same price as the Iphone, and the Iphone doesn't require a Wifi connection all the time to surf the net.

You cannot compose documents (even with Google Docs) or play games on the iPhone, at least not without hacking. The jailbreaking solution for 1.1.2 isn't as elegant as going to jailbreakme.com, but it can be done. Jailbreaking opens up a lot of possibilities that are missing from the way Apple wants it.
