I suppose it is amusing how Apple insists on selling 16GB versions of devices that can do things like shoot 4K video.

In addition to showing the dual-camera module, the Weibo images claim to show a 256GB memory chip, suggesting that Apple for the first time will introduce a higher storage variant with the iPhone 7 lineup. What’s notable, though, is that the images show 16GB, 64GB, and 256GB chips, perhaps implying that the 128GB model will be replaced all together with the new 256GB model. Judging by this leak, however, the 16GB model is here to stay.

Glad to see more phones with increased storage. Files are getting bigger, not smaller. You can't stream everything. Even if I'm off the iPhone train, I'm sure this will make the Android OEMs take notice, too.

Should be 64GB/128GB/256GB/512GB.
Lets live in the present APPLE. I have a 6s Plus btw so please no fanboy crap.

I can't wait to see the pricing on a 256GB iPhone.

Good ol' Apple "Oh no, if you want enough that costs a whole lot extra. We prefer to specialise in inadequacy".

Apple: The less is more company.

Apple: The less costs more company.

Apple: "Who cares if you can't use it most of the time, it says Apple on it. Your girlfriends will be super jealous".

I guess traditionally it would be $200 more then the base model if the provided tiers are correct. Are you expecting like double the price?

i figure apple has stats on how much people actually fill up their phone. they probably have a perfectly good business reason to keep 16GB around. for grandmas and such.

I only have 16GB on my phone. I have plenty of music 1.5GB , podcasts 1GB, pics 1GB , some games 1.5GB, home videos 2GB and still several gigs free. I don't watch movies on a cellphone. I use bigger devices for actual things. 16GB still works for me.

on my ipad, 64GB is what I need.

16GB needs to gtfo. There really isn't an excuse to bump it up to at least 32GB.

The forced download of patches can put a real hamper in that empty storage though. I do not like that they do that. Although, I understand it is a great way to force people to upgrade in order to free up that space, thus keeping the customer base less fragmented.

Only time will tell what the iPhone 7 really provides as their new flagship product. I have an iPhone 6 for work but only because it's for work purposes; they offer iPhones and BlackBerry Classic phones as options. My feelings towards Apple or Android are indifferent as it's really what you do with the phone that matters so to each their own.

256GB would make it a rare creature. That's high end, like actually high end, not just iFruit high end. I can't see that following their standard model.

I could be wrong, of course, heaven knows it's happened many a time before.

Glad Samsung got smart and brought back the microSD card slot for the S7 and S7 edge. That's one of the reasons I skipped the S6. I doubt Apple will ever offer an iPhone with a removable/upgradable memory option, even if everyone wanted it. I couldn't imagine owning a phone with only 16g of RAM, especially seeing as every minute shot at 4k eats up around 380 MB.

I wouldn't get hung up on specific memory sizes just yet. They've got a couple months before they have to lock down the specific chips, considering these things are all designed to be pin-compatible.

I'd guess that the next iteration will follow the latest iPads -- 32/128/256, at a $150/spec price spread. Apple likes their lockstep cadences.

Considering how cheap flash has gotten, there is no reason to be selling phones with only 16Gb of flash, 32gb should be the minimum.
I can maybe under stand 16GB on a low-end ultra low cost phone where every penny matters, but we all know Apple doesn't compete in that market.

I bought an iPod Touch 8 GB back in 2011. It was nice, but 8GB quickly became a pain in the ass. And that was 5 years ago! I resent the way Apple makes it impossible to add storage. And the price difference between storage tiers is really pretty much customer-rape. But, that's why I don't buy Apple stuff any more. Those that like their products, more power to you.

Apple wouldn't be selling these 16GB units if there wasn't a market for it.

If I had to guess, there is probably a large disparity in the amount of storage people use. There's probably a group of people at one end of the spectrum that only use their phone for texting and social media, and a group at the other end of the spectrum that carry lots of movies and music on their phone. The former group probably doesn't even know what their phone's storage capacity is, let alone come close to using it all.
