You know that iPhone 4 "crappy reception" problem? Well, thanks to Chuck Norris the problem has been solved. Yes…I said Chuck Norris. The proof.

In other words the phone aint worth a fuck. For the money that damn phone cost you should have a working antenna, I stick with my htc.

I have a good friend who is a gigantic Apple fanboi (despite owning nothing but PC's) and iPhone lover. Since he got his iPhone 4 we have not had a single conversation that he hasn't dropped the call. After months of blaming my phone he finally manned up and said that everyone is complaining that he's dropping calls and that it's time to get a different phone.

To be fair it isn't just Apple fanboys that have that problem. Friend of mine is on AT&T in Washington DC. I don't know if it is just that AT&T sucks or that his phone also sucks (can't remember what kinds, not an iPhone) but regardless he drops calls all the time. He's convinced it isn't him though. Says it only happens with me. Of course I asked his brother and it happens with him too.

For some reason most people have trouble believing their phone and/or service is a problem.

None of this is saying the iPhone 4 doesn't suck at the signal.
 
It's possible he's blocking the signal with a Faraday cage of some sort. But it's also fairly believable, at least more so than anything Steve Jobs has said to explain away this iFAIL.

...and there are just as many stories of people having no issues whatsoever with the phone.
Plus, what kind of credibility do those "I have this one friend..." stories have anyway.
I have this one friend who loves Fords and he bought a brand new Mustang GT and kept talking about how awesome it was. However this one time he pulled up to a V6 Nissan Altima and ended up losing a quarter-mile race. Afterward he admitted that he should've bought another car.

Sorry man but there have been WAY too many tests showing that the antenna design on the iPhone 4 is a problem. For that matter, that kind of design is known to be a problem. When the iPhone 4 came out, one of our professors, who does antenna research, had me grab a video of the problem. The reason is one of her students has been researching a way to try and mitigate it (unsuccessfully so far).

It is a bad design. When you touch the sides, you change the impedance of the antenna and cause a large drop in signal strength. This is well known and understood, and you can model it in HFSS.

It isn't just "A guy who knows a guy," it is a real problem. Doesn't mean you can't get the phone of you want it, and things can be done to mitigate it like a bumper that keeps you from making direct contact with the antenna, but it is a real problem.

I just printed a 4x2 inch picture of Chuck Norris and taped it to the back of my iPhone 3G.

Simple answer...the iPhone 4 is:

1) a great MP3 player
2) a really cool portable video player
3) a very slick mobile web device (assuming you can connect...)
4) a great platform for applications
5) etc.

but, as a phone, it basically sucks.
 
For every douche there is an iphone lover... for every cock; a hater... For the rest of us... Well we can just hate AT&T. I just cant wait til I can go to verizon here in AZ... ;)
 
It's funny, I can literally short the two antenna pieces with tinfoil - and I still get perfect signal.

My iphone 4 is running flawless - I get better call quality than any other phone, ever. Maybe the weak link is ATnT in this whole mess - Canadian carriers are doing just fine.
 
I love moronic people who will fight for or attack a piece of technology because of their opinion. Guess what, you won't make or lose money or benefit in any way if you get someone to buy/not to buy the tech.

As for the video, obviously rigged and quite dumb. Going from searching to 4 bar 3G to nothing again with a piece of paper out of plane with the diversity antennae on a table. Right.

The overwhelming majority of Apple fans do just that... Go ask a Apple fan how to deal with a problem and their answer is invariably "get a mac". You could go ask "hey who can I help my friend get laid" and the Apple fan would say "He/She should get a mac!" - which is actually true. I have read a highly detailed report on sexual activity linked to smart phone preference and Apple users had the most sexual partners (MOST promiscuous ) by a large margin. Where as Android users had less partners but similar frequency in sexual experiences.

What does this all mean? Statistics have proven Apple users to be promiscuous and my own research has proven that they believe the answer to any problem is to "get a mac".

Information inferred from these statistical proofs is Apple users (in general) are dirty, stupid, ignorant and they continually use their opinion (which has the least validity of any human because of their ignorance and stupidity) about tech to rationalize and promote their own purchases and electronic products for others.

I hear what your saying but Apple fanatics aren't the only breed of people with one sided blindness. Look at console versus PC people, windows versus *nix, and whatever useless arguments in the tech world you can think of. The endless debates of personal experiences (most often related to user ignorance) will live on forever. It's sometimes embarrassing to be known as a tech guru when people around us use emotion as a determining factor in their purchases. When I walk into a best buy/microcenter/other store and hear salesmen badmouth a brand or device because of personal opinion it pisses me off and I will correct them.

The average person in the tech world is nothing more then a politician. They will fabricate or exaggerate their experience to try and get back a company who somehow mystically wronged them. The Iphone 4 situation is a particular example. Antennae issues surfaced for a small percentage of people. Apple (under severe pressure) admitted to the issue, gave a free case as a solution (which almost everyone would buy anyways) and the issue went away for the most part. I can say this because I own 2. But media and angry users blow it out of proportion "OMG WTF worst phone EVER!" then somehow blame AT&T for it.

Worldwide EMP, where is it when you need it.........

The reason for such a large backlash against Apple for Antenna Gate is Apple is supposed to be the epitome of "it just works"

People pay a premium for that privlege. The iPhone4 was a step back from the 3GS in terms or relibaility due to that antenna "mis-step" So naturally people were pissed.

I make apple people to be more like BMW people. They justify the cost by saying it's a better product. But statistically speaking, it isn't. The average cost of ownership and repairs is considerably higher. Also statistically true is that macs are actually less secure than PC's. (Also proven every year at BlackHat/DefCon conferences) However PC's are a bigger target because of their install base. Hackers in poorer countries can't afford macs as easily also.

I was talking to a girl here at work that said she just got a mac and loved it. And she hated Windows. I asked her what her problem was.

She said:
1) She was using Vista on 1 gig and it slowed down like @#%$ after updates
2) She hated how the screen flashed and asked her to verify everything (She didn't know how to turn off UAC)

Both issues are much improved under windows 7. She went back and tried windows 7 and is a much happier with that OS now.

Let's face it, MS ^$%%@#$ the pooch with Vista. It became too intrusive and cumbersome to use. I personally hated how security restricted my access to certain directories even though I'm a qualified programmer and know what I'm doing.

On a side note, I can say as a whole, I don't like mac people. I find a lot of their attitudes are arrogant to say the least. (Oddly enough psychology studies also back this lil tidbit up.) If an OS works for you, then I say stick with it. I could care less what you choose, if you are happy with it.
