has anyone used their windows mobile 3g phone as a wifi hotspot for their ipad?

i ask because i know there is that app that turns your wm 3g phone into a adhoc wifi spot - i wonder how the speeds compare to the official ipad 3g

hmmm, i'm gonna give this a try and post back my results!

*edit*

well that's digital sex right there :)

within 5 minutes i was fully 3g connected with my htc touch pro 2 and my ipad... wireless, decent range [tested to 50ft through walls] - speed was decent, youtube and abc player took about 30 seconds to buffer pending how long the video was

pron from the web streamed right in :)

connected to the ibook store - took 1 minute to download a book [the strain book 1 by guillermo del toro and chuck hogan]

email is immediate

i couldnt really test speeds because all the speed sites use flash...

all in all - this is a very viable option if you have a 3g wm device - now i have zero reason to even remotely consider a ipad 3g

ya it works, just make sure you have an unlimited plan with your data plan, otherwise, they might red flag you and pay a hefty price.. just fyi... was gonna wait for the 3G iPad, but since i'm getting an EVO anyways, no need for 3G iPad and getting my iPad this week... can't wait!

Grab the speedtest app from the app store and run on ipad. Works Iike a charm.

I do the same thing with my jb iPhone.

I'm using my pro2 as a wap as I type this in a parking lot....what's mind blowing however is that the maps program knows EXACTLY where I am, and there aren't any visible access points besides my phone...... How does it know?

Yes I have. I have an older xv6700 hacked to run an older free WMWifiRouter. Works well for me at work where my 3g on my iPhone is spotty. However I just ran a test at home using the speed test app where I thought I had pretty good evdo on the phone.

3G iPhone on 3G did 964 down/357 kbps up. I couldn't get over 200 down and 120 up on the iPad connecting to the WMWifiRouter. It's an older phone though so really it could just be issue with the radio (and I think EVDO is "2G"). I verified it IS the Verizon connection speed by connecting the iPhone to the WMWifi and got similar results. Of course at work I think I get up to 300 download on it and my 3g iPhone drops to 0 because I can't even get a connection at my desk (building issue that verizon fixed by installing repeaters, outside my iPhone is king once again).

Skynet is monitoring you. Time to paint your walls with lead paint and wear a tinfoil hat.
