My Linksys wrt54g is fine. It's an older model by now.
Something doesn't sound right about your post. The iPad shouldn't "like" one router over another. I know it's possible but anyways.. have you tested your iPad on other routers? What are the symptoms of your iPad not "liking" your router?

if using WPA2, make sure you're using AES and not TKIP. iDevices (or iOS?) don't like WPA+TKIP
