Ipad 4.

I wouldn't blame you for missing it, Apple barely mentioned it at their press event. But yeah, the iPad 4 is out (now it's called the "iPad with Retina Display") ... it's twice as fast as the iPad 3 and has the new lighting connector.

Just FYI: I have the iPad 3 and imo the only reason to upgrade is if you have an iPhone5 and want to consolidate cables. the 3 is plenty fast for every app I throw at it and has the retina display as well. Unless your wanting to make sure it "lasts the longest" (iPad seems to get 2 major updates then die, ala iPad 1 did not get iOS6) I'd suggest getting a 3 off eBay for less. (not sure about JB status, though I read somewhere there is a JB for iPad4 I'm skeptical since iPhone5 doesnt have a JB yet and it's been out over a month longer)

and I agree, I didnt know it was out either untill I saw somone else mention it, there was no major promotion compared to the 3...

EDIT:
just to clarify, I have the 3 and probably wont upgrade till the 5 unless something major changes and I *need* the 4's quad-core "currently excessive" processing power

^ agreed with what you said above. the ipad mini will be the "least common denominator" for quite some time now, and it's as fast as the ipad 3. so app developers will be supporting its hardware spec for a long time. you can't really go wrong getting a third generation ipad if you can find a deal on it. in fact, the apple store near my apartment still has half their display models as ipad 3's because there is functionally no difference between them and the ipad 4, besides the lightning connector (vs. the old 30 pin connector)

i've seen conflicting review intel on whether the ipad 4 is actually faster in "real world" use. technically it's about twice as fast. in my experience, the ipad 3 was plenty fast, so no need to worry about it.

Actually, while I'm not going to upgrade, I do know for a fact that there are situations where this 2X processor would definitely make a difference. It really depends on what type of apps you use and what you use the retina display for. If I had endless funds, I'd get the 4 because the 3 can be draggy in some situations for my use. So saying the processor is excessive is only based on your use, not others.

That is the Ipad 3! with the retina display.

It is iPad (4th Generation), it has an A6X processor as opposed to the A5X processor in the "new iPad" (3rd Generation).

The 3rd Generation is on sale in Apple's Refurbished Store for $379 if you don't care about having A6X and want to save $120. Many of them are unsold retail stock rather than refurbished, but YMMV. It goes in and out of stock, just check every once in awhile.

No, It's not.

Looks the same, internals are faster, and has the new dock connector, LTE on cellular models, faster wifi. This wasn't a major update (well, the processors kind of major, but they don't exactly play it up as a killer feature) and thus, isn't being hailed as something huge on apple's front page.

Come on, do a little more reading and research for yourself.

Even just typing the thread title into google would have found your answer.

Apple mentioned it plenty at their press event. The problem is that the Mini stole the headlines.

I actually know a lot of people who follow Apple fairly well, and they had 0 clue that there was an iPad 4 announced.

this thread is just a guy trolling right? this thread is fake

Yeah, started to get that feeling after the "That's the iPad 3!!!" comment... lol

Or, lowest attention span person of all time :D

This update was even too minor for a hype campaign

Thanks for your contribution to this thread, I guess.

The iPad Mini got all the headlines because it's a new product, sort of like how the iPhone 5 drowned out the iPod Touch update.
