Would something like this be possible for computers in relatively close proximity?

Not sure what you're asking.

I use pdanet to tether my thunderbolt to my pc.

Your question is inferring therse more than one pc connected to your phone?

ahh thats lame. someone shoulda named their product something different lol.

Thunderbolt is just PCI-E, so you would probably need something in between to make that work

It's doable. I believe Intel hinted at Ethernet over Lightpeak back before they went with Thunderbolt. Might take a while when Thunderbolt is more common until we see some software or hardware.

I'm extremely frustrated at the lack of high-speed P2P links. I need to transfer files from my media server which can push over 750MiB/s and Gigabit Ethernet is a huge bottleneck. 10GbE is also extremely expensive. A switch costs $5k and single port NICs costs $500 a pop.

I need 10GbE speeds for iSCSI just between one particular computer and my server which are in close proximity.

First World problems..

I can't stream porn fast enough so I can fap.

Actually netgear has 10gb switches that start at $800

I'm guessing this is a home environment? Exactly what situation do you have where GbE is not enough to stream media?

Is sneakernet an option? Get a USB3/Thunderbolt/eSATA external hard drive.

Or what about 10GbE over a crossover cable, no switch needed?
