I'm using a linksys wireless router.....it is forcing me an ip.....I need to have a different ip.....preferably the one that is from my modem. Is there any way to make my router not force its own ip on my machine. I have to use the router because everyone else in the house needs internet. Any help is greatly appreciated thanks.
 
There is usually only one IP released by the modem...and that goes to your router. What are you trying to accomplish?
 
You should be able to set a static IP on your machine in the same subnet and have full functionality alongside dhcp assigned IPs. The dhcp server probably issues x.x.1.100 - 200 IP's so just hardwire yours to 192.168.1.2

This will likely also help with what fark_maniac is getting to. What are you looking to do? If you are asking about getting the wan IP on a (your) lan machine for gaming or remote access, you will need to setup port forwarding to that IP you have hardwired into your machine. Many assumptions made with these statements though.
