Hey guys,
I recently purchased a XFX 8800GT Alpha Dog Edition and I am having troubles installing it.
I removed, my old video card(XFX 7800GT), installed the new one and updated the drivers with the CD it came with.

Once the drivers were installed, it asked me to reboot, so I did. But when the log in screen came on, I noticed the resolution and colors were reduced to the lowest setting. Once I logged back in, I went back into the display properties to restore my settings however once I selected the "settings" tab, windows popped up a notification, saying that the graphics adapter driver was written for a previous version of windows. Once I click on OK the settings panel is displayed, however all of the options are removed. The resolution cannot be changed to anything other than the lowest setting, and the color quality cannot be changed from 4bit.

So I went to Nvidia's site and installed the latest driver with the same result.

I thought it might be a defective card, so I popped out the new one and put back the old one and everything worked fine with the new driver.

Does this mean my video card is defective or am I missing something else?

Also, I am concerned with the temperature my card is running at. I haven't measured how hot it runs, but it runs hot enough that it is uncomfortable to hold. Is this normal?

Thanks in advance for any help and input.

Some more infomation on your hardware would be great
Download Drive Cleaner Pro and boot into safe mode through F8 / F6 and run the program to remove Nvidia graphics adaptor.
Restart and install the latest Forceware from Nvidia's site

I ran Drive Cleaner under safe mode and reinstalled the latest drivers from Nvidia, but I am still getting the same problems.

Hardware:
AMD X2 3800
1GB Corsair XMS ram
Abit Fatal1ty AN8 SLI
XFX 8800GT

Xp or Vista?
Also the 8800GT run at a default fan speed of 29% which doesnt change unless you either flash the bios with the latest manufacters version or download RivaTuner and change the fan speed in there.
