Invaid format issue

So this is my problem. plus its a two part question. Thank you for your time and consideration in advance.

I woke up one day to find my power had gone out the night before. for some reason my bios was also flashed. When i turned on my computer i noticed my VIZIO's XVT473SV 47" was displaying Invalid format on the screen.

A little back ground information.
My computer is hooked up to my tv via a DVI to VGA adapter, then there is a VGA cable to the tv. I have a duel monitor set up with my view sonic va912b. Never had a problem before. I could run the tv at almost any resolution as long as i kept it at 60 hz refresh or less. Now i can only run the tv at 800 by 600 or 1024 by 768. I have created a larger resolution that works currently at 1920 by 1080, custom set up is address 1920 , 1080 front porch 48, 3 sync width 32, 5 back porch 80, 23 total 2080 , 1111 frequency 66.587khz , 58.934 sync polarity positive, negative. pixel rate MHz 138.5 refresh rate 59.934.

Now this works wonderfully and I love the resolution. The only issue I'm having is that any time i enter into any game or program with a different resolution then my custom one my screen turns to invalid format, and most games will not allow for a custom resolution with such refined specification. I know it can work because I had it working before. I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong i have tried just about everything I can think of so I came here.

Is there a setting i should be messing with on my tv or maybe a setting that i dont have working correctly in the display settings or the NVIDIA control center?

Before the power outage i didn't have any problem switching to any form of resolution. it might have looked funny if it wasn't 16:9 but it would still display.

I would like to get this resolved without having to take back my tv or get a different cable if possible as money is not always something i have.

Second question.
Would a dvi to HDMI cable allow for me to have a higher refresh rate and maybe take advantage of the the 240HZ refresh rate my tv is capable of? Also would this fix my resolution problem.

Thank you so much for anyone that spends time reading this and can give me any hints as to what i can do to fix this.

I have also included my system specs if that will help in this process.
