The staff of Team Ninja are proud to announce the official opening of the new DC-Vault statistics site found at:

www.dc-vault.com

Dedicated to tracking team statistics this site offers a unique possibility of comparing different teams across multiple projects.

Based on a scoring system that rewards participation in multiple projects as well as top positions in projects, the DC-Vault offers listed teams an overview of their performances in the DC-Vault projects as well as an "at a glance" look at the team positions in over 25 current DC projects.

If you want to have your team added, please use the form on the site provided for that purpose.

If your team is already listed in the DC-Vault and you want us to add it to one or more projects, let us know via the site too!

The dedicated DC Vault forums found here have been set up to be the central place for interteam banter and taunting. Comparing teams and planning the next move to enhance your team's overall and/or category ranking is now made easier by the DC Vault stats. Join in and exchange yourself with the huge DC community. Join in the fun and enhance your teams scoring, show off your TFlops. In the end, everyone wins :)

I don't get it. The amount of weight assigned to each project should be weighted in terms of CPU hours or something, not some made-up thing. And what *are* some of these projects? I've never heard of "Ubero", for example. It's a bit odd to see that the #1 and #2 teams in FAH at #26 and 20, and the #1 and #2 grid teams at #12 and #136... :confused:

BOINC seems to be the heavily weighted favorite. According to their stats we have almost as many points in that as we do in Folding@Home. Seems like the stats are slanted to certain projects.

PPPHHHHTTTT!!!!

Whats the point? Who wants to skew some stats so we have the number one position in something? LOL :p

It looks like each thing is based out of 10,000 pts. For example in F@H OCAU has 10,000 pts and we have 9,999 pts. Don't know how that works, but whatever. I like how this team has two official projects we support, and we have good healthy involvement in both of them, we don't need to go and try to support 26 projects so we can have more "points" on this website.

QFT !
We excel because we focus on a few specific projects and don't spread ourselves thin over a large field.

We never assumed the DC-Vault would be considered the high Graal of the DC World. Look at it as an additional resource to check DC stats on the web. Use it if you like it, don't use it if you don't like it, it is up to your team :)

As for the scoring...the more we kept thinking about weighing projects, the more it became obvious that its not going to please everyone all the time. A choice was made, we get overwhelming positive feedback from many places, a little negative feedback from others but that was to be expected! Crunch on!

perhaps this will encourage more teams to try other projects as well. although [H] is down in the overall rankings(31st position), there are many big time projects they have'nt touched yet, such as Climate Prediction,Rosetta, SOB, etc.

you never know, after adding some projects to [H]'s team, they'll be in the thick of it. and then maybe the work and effort to bring you this terrific idea for everyone to use can be more appreciated. also,don't forget, if you need a team added to a project, fill out THIS, and it'll be done.

remember, the DC community donate their hardware and power for good reasons, so lets not get too critical over some things not understood on this new venture, although we will gladly take all the taunting you have when you pass us in the standings.

Our “team” concentrates on two primary projects. As a team we find we get more done that way.

This is one area of computing where the “Divide and Conquer” theory is counter productive, no matter how much you attempt to skew a stats site.

Interesting idea, the only problem is it seems theres no weighting factor that includes the number of users for a project, i.e. Rosetta@home has < 15,000 users, Folding@home has over >500,000, but it seems a certain rank at either holds the same weight, which would not make for accurate rankings.

If better weighting were factored in, and no penalty for not participating in certain projects was factored out, it'd be a much better overall ranking. Unique idea none the less :cool:

I have been debating whether or not I was going to stick my opinion in here....this may be a mistake. ;)

Personally, I can appreciate your dedication to making a stats site for the community. Lord knows it is a lot of work. What I have a problem with is your apparent random scoring system. It confuses me. Not to mention it is completely useless in the grand scheme of things. It has no real value. It tells us nothing. I don't believe that there is a metric that will allow you to compare 2 teams that are not related by the same project. Perhaps CPU time as mage had suggested, but not much else really makes sense.

What are the specific "weights" of each project and how did you come upon their values?

The scoring formula :

The scoring calculation to determine the team positions within the vault ranking system works as follows:

Overall score = Sum of all category scores
Category scores = Sum of all projects scores in a category
Project score = 10000 - (Position - 1) * (10000 / Total number of teams in the project)

Example:

You are 10th in a project with 10000 teams :
Score = 10000 - (10-1) * (10000/10000)
Score = 10000 - 9*1
Score = 9991

You are 10th in a project with 100 teams:
Score = 10000 - (10-1) * (10000/100)
Score = 10000 - 9 * 100
Score = 9100

This means you get more points for a higher position in a project that has more teams, but it ALSO means that you can get a nice number of points from smaller projects which _could_ make those a little more popular.

We lots of different ways, most ended up being skewed heavily in favor of the big projects (like getting 60k points for Grid with 40k teams and like 30 points for the same position in TSC...)

The scoring IS arbitrary...it was never meant to "determine" the best team as the positions would change with any different formula to calculate the scores.

The DC-Vault is about having fun for those teams that do want to engage in multiple projects. Nothing less :)

Hope that helps!

I'll just keep quite on my opinion. It is interesting none the less.

Just an FYI, this team is so biased towards UD/FaH that mention of any other DC projects generally ends up in flames. Personally I think all DC projects are good, folks here mostly fo FaH and UD, I like talking crap and looking down at all but 9 of then, so that's what I run. :p

You are 10th in a project with 10000 teams :
Score = 10000 - (10-1) * (10000/10000)
Score = 10000 - 9*1
Score = 9991

You are 10th in a project with 100 teams:
Score = 10000 - (10-1) * (10000/100)
Score = 10000 - 9 * 100
Score = 9100

Does 2+2 still = 4? Mage needs to know!

It is nice to see all the other DC projects in one place, I still might switch to something else.

See, there's an example ;) You just couldn't live without us...

Btw..if you dont want to voice your opinions here on your own forum, you can do so at will on the DC Vault forums. As it is a huge and unique project, its is very important and appreciated if we can get any feedback on it to make it better in the future!

Thanks,

Rag

It's not that we "can't." I think that most are just trying to avoid that flame wars that could ensue.

As I said before, I admire the dedication and hard work...I question the validity. :)
