Interview With Peter Moore

[HardOCP News]

Part three of Mercury News’ interview with Peter Moore is online. A wide variety of topics were covered during the interview but one of the most interesting subjects discussed was the possibility of Folding on the 360.

We continue to look at this and see whether there’s real value. (Moore mentions that Bill Gates “quite frankly has had a conversation about this” and notes that Gates is interested in applying “philanthropic processing power to big problems'’). But I’m not quite sure yet whether we’re seeing real tangible results from the PlayStation 3 Folding@Home initiative.

who cares if it won't do as well as the ps3... all it matters is if you can fold, it will still help as there are probably way more 360users than ps3s,

Question is what 16 year old will want their X360 to Fold? (I do but that's not the point.)

[jmackay]

If it is weaker than the PS3 in folding, hopefully they will implement it anyway as its for a good cause. Sadly I could see them not releasing it after internal testing if it is much slower since people would make a huge deal out of it.

I know this sounds a bit crass, as Folding is a wonderful thing to donate spare CPU cycles to, but I think that MS should perhaps consider throwing us a bone if we want to donate our Xbox360 CPU cycles. Perhaps something cheesy like achievements/points or something a bit more enticing like marketplace points for serious folders.

Just thinking out loud.

that's not a bad idea really.

Actually I like that a lot for people who don't fold as much *like me but I am using my PS3 more and more for this*
