Hey, I'm here in Australia where the monthly internet usage is capped out at 10 GB. Just wondering per hour how much internet online gaming uses.

--For PC games such as counter-strike, call of duty, l4d, etc.

thanks

I'd guess you are safe to do about 15 hours of "basic" internet surfing a day with that plan. Gaming maybe around 8 hours a day.

i used to split a 10gb connection with my flatmate (i live in New zealand and our caps are crap.) and we used to both play battlefield 2 for at least 5 hours a day EACH. we only went over 10gb a few times, but this was before torrents were discovered

as long as you arent doing a ton of downloading.. there shouldnt be any way gaming will cause you to hit your cap.. actually you would probably use more bandwidth browsing google then what most games use.. but in the end it really depends on how much gaming you do.. i still dont know why you aussies dont complain to your government to force the bandwidth monopoly over there to be removed..

That greatly depends on the games themselves and your connection's characteristics. I know that some ISPs, accumulate down stream AND up stream together, meaning that if you download 1 MB and then upload 1 MB, you already used 2 MB of your traffic. The majority just seems to count the down stream though, butl you should check how your connection "works" to be sure.

If it counts only the down stream, then you should be fine for several hours a day, per month. If it also counts uploads, then that number drops to at least half.

The current government is supposed to be rolling out a new fibre-optic broadband network but it's taking a suspiciously long time to even get started.
