I'm stuck at college, where our internet is too shitty for me to even think about playing games most of the time. I'm at Clarkson University which is in the north country of New York State, and my pings to east coast servers in any game are usually in the 300s or more. Maybe even around 1500.

But when I'm home its Road Runner Cable. ;D

The entire campus is on a single T3 for Internet, and a T3 for internet2 is what we're told.... campus of 3000 students, plus all the buildings that have networked computers in them.

They just dont get that its not enough. =(

Adelphia cable.....in the woods of New Hampshire its the only option I have besids dial-up :p
 
I thought this thread was going to be about words and phrases used specifically in online games or something. :confused:

Anyway, I live in a college town, so I use DSL. I hear cable is really oversold here because so many off-campus students leech 24/7 with p2p and use up massive amounts of bandwidth which in turn can cause really inconsistent latency in games for everyone else. *shrug*
 
Cable here. I used to have DSL and I won't make that mistake again unless there is no other broadband choice.

That's true....I probably should have clarified more. There are 2 networks on campus...one for faculty and the school buildings and the other for the dorms and on-campus suites. The connection is fine, even for gaming, if I'm someplace other than my townhouse because in the residential buildings they limit bandwith on each port making gaming tough. It's fine for general internet browsing and such but anything more isn't really possible. Only recently have they limited residential ports...before that the gaming would be great on weekends when alot of people went home (ie long weekends when I don't feel like driving the 4 1/2 hours home). I'd get pings in the 20's-40's consistently and would be able to game pretty much all weekend. Ahh...those were some fun times :cool:
 
Wow... I didn't realize that cable companies had such high speeds. My Comcast is good. They say its 6mbps / 386kbps but I get appx 7.4 / 360. I whish I was getting some of those speeds other people are getting from Cox and what not. :(
 
(UK) Wanadoo 2 Mb ADSL (was 1 Mb last month, should go up to 8Mb once the phone company gets it's act together)
 
college T3 ATM. when i get home most likely Optimum Online instead of AT&T DSL depends...

Comcast is charging waaaay too much. :mad: Although my connection is usually pretty fast.

Hmm what really sucks is I work for Cox but I'm moving to a Time Warner area so my 15Mb will turn to 8 very soon =(
 
4Mbit/400kbit aDSL.
(They're speaking about doubling the speeds again, but I'll hold off celebrating until I see it.)
 
are all you guys with cox paying for their premium service or somthing cuz they clame 5down and 2 up, but even when i run speed tests at like 3 in the mroning i can never get over 3 down or 1 up

Yea, I was hardcore ATI at one point.... no longer
 
I game on dual oc12's about 20% of time and cable 80% of time. No, I'm not joking either about the oc12's. In fact, moving to oc48's in a month. Downloading DVD's in a couple seconds is nice. Not that I'd do that or anything.

where are you located? i am in birmingham, alabama and we only have 3 meg. charter keeps telling us that we will be getting 5 meg soon. i have some nightmare stories about charter so getting 5 meg probably wont help me hate them any less. last year i had 49 days of no connectivity. :mad: all of them were the fault of charters crappy equipment. :mad:
