I have two computers:
a really old computer w/ windows xp and a macbook pro 15 in laptop

my issue is that my crappy computer connects to the internet fine (using it now) but my mac using the exact same configuration (boot camp xp) does not what should i check and what can i do?

modem = Motorola sb5101 surfboard
using cat5 cable ... i also have a belkin wireless g plus mmimo router but neither work w/ my macbook (though i have used my belkin router in other locations w/ my mac.

So how is the current configuration of the network setup???

Looking for something like Modem --> Router XYZ --> XP/OSX

Is it configured for DHCP? Can the Mac ping the router?

Uh... i wish i understud your question better... I'm an idiot when it comes to this stuff...

if i use my belkin router and connect w/ my mac wirelessly i have full bars and no internet but if i connect to my modem w/ a cat5 cable i get no internet and i dont think my computer even understands that i'm connected to the modem... but my desktop works fine when connected directly to the modem or through the router by cat5 (my desktop has no wireless card)
