Hi, I am using Windows 7 home premium and I am wondering if could I create an user account where everything is pretty much stripped down.

At work, in our computer area, we are able to log on and the ONLY things we are able to do are browse the web and print. At work they are using Windows Professional and I am not sure if they installed a third party software.

I am wanting this for my guest users. The guess account Windows create isn't enough.

Any ideas on how I could do this?

You could possibly use IPSEC, but that would take a considerable amount of planning and probably a bit of trial and error to make work.
 
If your work is using a domain they probably have all kinds of restrictions set up via policies.

Policies refers to gpedit configuration, and gpedit is only available in Professional+. Though gpedit just sets configuration in the registry, so it may be possible for you to find a way to set the same policies on Home Premium, but I'm not sure how readily available the required information is going to be to do that. You could always upgrade to Professional (I believe Windows allows you to do this without a reinstall, never tried it though) then use gpedit and software restriction policies and applocker. Alternatively, you could just set a deny execution permission on every app you don't want your guest account to use, but that wouldn't stop them from downloading stuff from the internet and running it, not sure how you'd do that without gpedit.

I was gonna recommend Windows Steady State but it looks as though its no longer available on MS site and they are ending support for it this year. Was a nice program too, my work uses it on the kiosks for the employees to use. I also used it at home on my kids computers so they couldn't fuck them up to bad, worked really well to.
 
I helped a friend setup a kiosk mode for his companies computers and we used 3rd party software to do it.
That was a about four years ago now and can't even remember the name of the software now but it cost around $30.00. I can find out the name from my friend if you are interested but this was on XP so it may not be Win7 compatible. GPedit in the Pro version of windows can limit a lot of stuff and Opera web browser has a kiosk mode too. There's this firewall you can get for free that is for system admins to use at schools and it is very powerful in how you can limit and protect your system from the internet but I can't remember the name of that right now either.
