Internet not working

Today after reformating and reinstalling windows xp I go to setup my dsl which I have done before the same way every time i've reformated after I get done with that on my modem the broadband, power and local network lights were all green indicating that everything was connected and working. Also when I look under my network connections it says that my connection is connected, but still when I try to do anything on the internet nothing seems to work, even when I restart my modem. Anyone know what might be wrong?
