Reuters says that the key site identity system is in danger from new techniques that could turn the system into a free-for-all market.

"Domain names used to be primarily specific identifiers of businesses and other Internet users, but many names nowadays are mere commodities for speculative gain," senior WIPO official Francis Gurry told a news conference. Gurry also said the growth of computer-driven practices, like automatic mass harvesting of expired TLDs and "domain-name tasting", risks turning the system "into a mostly speculative market."

Hmm. This is something new. I'm sorry I was too dumb to register my trademarks.

As if it already hasnt?

Some of the things mentioned in that article arnt anything new.

As a test, Mis-spell google.com, hardforum.com, or some other popular site. Remove a letter here or there, try a .net or a .org.

From day one I've always been frustrated with how domain names are handled.

If we want to get away from all this dispute bullpoop, I think domains should be handled like so:

Country/State|Province/City/Company

And then your level can change based on your trademark jurisdiction. So if you are a state wide company you become:

Country/Company

If you are 'Global' company, well you probably really aren't. You should only be able to do the countries that you actually have offices setup in.

As for individuals, we should be given by citizenship of our Country a delegated number:

Country/########

Every individual should be accountable for their web presence.

What happend to the edit post linky?
