Internet Explorer Status Bar

Ok, when I open a new browser by clicking on my quicklaunch bar, the status bar is displayed at the bottom of the browser, perfect. When I press Ctrl + N to open a new browser, the status bar disappears..it's very, very annoying. Does anyone know where I can go to make it so that the status bar is there when the new window opens?

Close all your browsers and explorer windows bar one explorer window. Yes, that means this browser window too.

In your explorer window, make sure the status bar is enabled. Go to Tools-> Folder Options->View -> Apply to all folders. Hit ok.

Now hold shift and click the red x to close the folder.

That should do the trick... I keep thinking I've forgotten a step though
