Internet Explorer Problems

Hello guys,
About 2 months ago I realized that my IE was having problems. Certain days it would either just not open, be very slow, or just crash often. This would happen and then the next day it would be running perfectly. This kept happening on and off. It is now doing it again and it makes me mad. Research has shown that I would probably have to reinstall XP to fix IE. That is not something I want to do. I have 7 days left on my dell warranty. What does anybody think the best thing to do would be? Also would installing an upgrade to vista work or does it just use the IE files from the other OS?

System Info: Dell 5150 Windows xp mce, 1gb ram, 80gb HDD, Intel Pentium D 2.8ghz dual core processor.

Did you scan for spyware, trojans, etc? Alot of IE problems (specifically the ones your are explaining) can be caused by spyware etc.

fewproud:

I’m at Dell Headquarters in Austin, Texas and I just came across this thread. It looks like you have a few options. I would see if restoring it to an earlier date works and if not I would do a complete format reinstall whether you're upgrading to Vista or not. You'll need to make sure all of your date is backed up whether you do it an upgrade or a complete reinstall so the latter is probably not going to take that much longer. Since it's going to be a pain either way I would prefer to just take a little bit longer to have a clean install. You might as well also chop the drive in two and have one (good) install of each OS on each partition so you have a backup plan if anything gives you trouble in Vista.

If you're sure there are no virus or spyware issues, then I would start disabling add ons tied into internet explorer. You can do that in internet options.
