Internet Disconnect Problem

Hello,

I'm trying to pinpoint a problem I am having with my internet connection. First let me give some background on what I have.

Router: DGL-4300 connected to a DSL modem through Yahoo/SBC.
Computers: 3 computers hooked up to the router(my home was pre-wired when built). One of the computers uses a switch to connect the computer and VOIP phone.
Print Server: I have a wireless print server

What happens is, from time to time, I will lose the internet connection. The only fix is to reboot the computer. Now, the router doesn't go down. I plug my laptop in and at the time my desktop goes down, the laptop is still working.

I figure that this is some type of router problem because a computer reboot fixes the problem. My wife works at home and just all of a sudden, her phone will go out. Also, she may lose the connection to her computer.

From time to time, when I am playing an MMORPG like WOW or Auto Assault or something, I will get booted.

I have upgraded the firmware on the router(though I will check to see if am using the latest), and I have no special settings set, though gamefuel is enabled.

Is this a case of trying to pull too much bandwidth and it shutting down that computer's access or something?

Can anyone provide some ideas? I'd rather not call D-Link tech support yet because I have trouble communicating with them. Any suggestions on things to try would be great. I am not an expert, but I can usually figure things out.

Thanks

I've changed them in the past, but not recently. This is happening on two different computers as well...and a computer reboot solves the problem.

I'll definitely do some swapping and see if I notice a difference.

Thanks for the suggestion

Also of note is that when I do lose the connection, I cannot pull up the router admin page either.

I get the local cable unplugged pop-up and then that is it. This has happened when I am playing a game and the other computers are not being used. This baffles me a little because there is nothing else taking up bandwidth. Just todayI logged into WOW on lunch for a short time while my wife was working. We both lost our connections, not sure if we were fighting bandwidth, but still not sure what is going on.

The only way I can describe it is that we are given a bandwidth allowance and once we use that up, we need to reboot. I don't know how that could be, but that's the best way to describe it.

Thanks

i posted this in another post but i'll post this again....

if you have SBC and you got their little square black DSL modem after a certain amount of time plugged into the router it drops the connection. I guess this is due to them trying to convserve bandwidth. The only way ive heard is around it where i live atleast is switching to the 2wire modem.

Ok....is that something you have to get through them?

It upsets me because the reason I have DSL is to have my own line. If this is the case, I don't see the benefit...I can't even play an MMORPG or my wife can't even make phone calls for work.

Thanks for the tip.

The cards are set to obtain the addresses automatically.

ive seen overheating routers do this before too as well as ones fille with dust

just another thing to check.

Interesting...I have mine in my garage but I keep it shielded and we don't keep the heat in there high at all. I'll definitely give that a check...

I actually have a 2wire now that I remember. It was a portal set up though and didn't work with how I have my whole home setup. I already have all the equipment and didn't want to use their technology.

What's odd is I've had this for 2 years and it just started happening a few months ago.
