Internal USB too short

My Fan Controller USB wire is too short to reach the Internal USB connector.
I have pulled the plug off and was about to put on some more wire but started to think if this would affect the data transfer or anything.

Basically I have some exact same size wire, some heatshrink and a cable cover. Would this effect the USB? Here you can see the Long wires that reach, and the short ones that dont. (Grey).

If you are using the same type wire (it is important for the green and white wires to be twisted), you should be able to extend it several inches. Depends on your assembly and soldering skills.

nah, usb can go pretty far, I don't know the rated length but I'm sure you could add several feet without any ill effects.

Non powered USB is supposedly up to around 16.5 feet spec. Power is a few hundred i believe.

I have taken non powered runs up to about 60 feet though by using just normal cable and it worked fine. You should have no trouble extending a few inches

You should have no troubles at all. I use a homemade USB cable w/ my external HDD and no trouble at all.

Just soldered the same gauge wire together to a USB connector, heat-shrunk the joints, pinched the green/white in a vice, put the other end in a drill, and used that to twist 'em. Then applied heatshrink to the whole thing, added aluminum shielding, and another outer layed of heatshrink. Voila, USB cable!
