Internal Memory Card Reader(s)

I have a G5- I take horrible pictures with it, but I like it. So, I got the picture taking part down. I repeatedly run into problems on the portion of the process that moves the pictures from my camera to my PC's hard drive.

If I use a USB cable and plug directly into the camera- no problem. As soon as I start using my $%)(*!$@# In-Win internal memory card reader all hell breaks loose. As a general rule, the reader never even shows up in XP Pro, it gets listed as an unknown device under the USB portion of the device manager. Occasionally- and with no change in config on my part- it does get recognized and it works as it's supposed to. At this point, I have no idea why it does this, only that it does. I am sufficently frustrated with it however to require a new internal card reader. One that works all the time preferred.

That being said- anybody have any thoughts/opinions/experiences on good bets for internal card readers? I'm looking for a black face-plate, 3.5" drive bay, USB 2.0, and xD compatibility (only to cover myself for all scenarios- obviously not because it's required for my G5).

As a side note, I dug a bit on www.dpreview.com and found that some people have had this same issue and it's related to USB chipset vs. Card Reader, so for the record this is going into an Intel D865GBF motherboard.

Thanks for the help!

Yes, unforunately I've tried the new drivers/bios versions to no avail. I've also tried updating the firmware of the card reader itself. Thanks for the thought though.

Thanks guys, I looked at the egg and saw a few as well. I was more curious if anybody used them- did they work?

I know the user reviews for most of them on the egg are pretty solid, but I trust the [H] more.

Cheers!

I have an Apacer 6 in 1 internal card reader. I only use CF cards and I have had no problems with it in the past year.
