the xbox 360 hddvd reader is like 189 but it is external. I can't for the life of me seem to find an internal reader. Can someone help me out? i've seen bluray ones but they're expensive and i want HDDVD.

There isn't any yet unless you can jack one out of a HP computer from Best Buy or something. There also are some overseas in the China area made by NEC *I think*, but none in the US.

If you go on HP's website in the Parts Store, you can check out these model numbers. I am trying to contact HP to order them saying they are "replacement parts", but I have yet to receive a reply.

Possible part numbers:
RK602AV
GG721AV
GN612AV
GG065AV

EDIT:
Order Parts: http://h20141.www2.hp.com/hpparts/Order_Parts.asp
Lookup Parts: http://h20141.www2.hp.com/hpparts/part_search.asp <--- search for "HD DVD" under product name.

Oh wait.. it does look like you can order it. If you click on the part number after the search and hit the little "LIST ALL PARTS FOR THIS PRODUCT >>" button at the bottom, it shows the core exchange program and cost. It is $325 if you don't return a core product, so that would be the cost of it if you ordered it. That really isn't too bad.. cheaper than a BD drive. I think I might go with this in my HTPC I'm building in the next week or so.

Christ..when will the bickering end!!

Valve just asked a simple question is all. For less than $200 they could just easily get the 360 HD-DVD drive.

On to the post....I'm waiting on the dual drives. Very frustrated with the format war at this point.:(

He explicitly asked for an internal. Why must you question what other people want for their own pc?

Dude, chill out. I asked a question, I didn't make a statement.

I'm with you Vader. Once a dual format drives come out I'll start considering an upgrade. I'm not going to have two drives.

My god.. the man's question was simple. He already noted the 360 external drive and said no to it. If you looked on the link I posted to HP's Part Store, they have a dual format HDDVD/Bluray combo drive on there. zzzzzzzzzz.

thanks. yeah $325 aint too bad. i'll have to order one and see how it works out.

The reason i can't go external is because it is unacceptable to customers. I actually own an xbox360 drive for myself :D

I wonder why they're restricting sales to the HDDVD drives? The external ones are plenty available, but the internal ones seem to be limited to OEM builders.

Keep in mind that the BD offering is a writer too, not just a reader such as these HD-DVD offerings. So on technicality, it's not cheaper

I saw one guy selling this on ebay the other day for $180 buy it now. I didn't buy it, I wanted to beat myself for not doing so.

It's always how it is, corporatism at it's finest.

Looks to me like a standard slim-optical-ide to 2.5 inch IDE adapter would fit fine, and for the faceplate, since Toshiba don't make 3.5 inch DVD drives, you might have to do some hunting, but finding one that fits probably wouldn't be too hard :)

i dont know why everyone is getting mad about suggesting the 360 drive.
I with you on wanted one drive that does both but you can pick the 360 drive up for 150 at BestBuy and they are offering 5 free movies too. I am going to stop by there today and pick one up. I would much rather have both but they are piratically giving it away and most movies are coming out on both formats now anyway.
