internal drives the same as externals?

Hi

Was wondering for companies like Seagate, WD etc selling int & ext hdd's,

Are the same model drives used for ext as they are for int? as in exactly the same specs etc?

Reason I ask is when hdd prices were up alot of people were buying the ext drives and cracking them open as they were 30$ cheaper. I have problems with my drives i cracked open to use internally & was wondering if i bought the internal model if i would encounter the same issues?

I would say a combination of shorter warranties and market forces.

Most likely that would not change anything.

Some on WD's have a USB PCB on the HDD instead of an adapter to prevent people from doing that.

AFAIK, Seagate still uses an adapter or straight thru.

So if they use the same model for Internal & External drives, would they also run on the same firmware?

Just having a issue with a HBA card, all my other previous gen 2tb drives work however the one I cracked open from an external drive doesn't work

& was working out if i bought the internal drive version if it would work or not
